A neat way to quell the academician's outrage at the largesse floating through the AD...multimillion dollar quarterbacks and coaches making more than college department heads.

Stanford and Cal would drop sports before going to the Big 12.

Ouch.

I do believe the B1G wants more west coast teams and their #1 target is Stanford. If getting Cal keeps the California governor and state legislature at bay, so be it. Every conference needs some doormats and Cal can slide right in to that slot. A Stanford/Cal duo gives the B1G a 100% dominance of the California market and makes for easy travel for non-revenue sports who can do a Thurs/Sat or Fri/Sun swing through LA or through the bay area. Both LAX and SFO are major hubs for airlines which means even those teams which fly coach have plenty of non-stop options to get from east coast or midwest over to Cali.

I don't think you take a Stanford/Oregon, Stanford, UW or UW/Oregon combo over a Stanford/Cal combination.

As a point of reference, UConn compares very favorably regarding the total number of facebook, twitter and instagram followers at 525K (e.g., in the top 25% in ACC, Big12, and PAC12, middle to the pack in the B1G and in the bottom 25% in the SEC).

UConn should be the next up in terms of joining one of these conferences (most likely the ACC).

So, UConn to the Pac 12? Nah, that’s ridiculous. No self respecting team would join a conference based on the other coast. (Yeah, I’m looking at you Gonzaga.)

Before we decide, what are they willing to pay us?

Some shrewd folks should just start a new conference and populate it half with PAC 12, half with Big 12, quarter with Mountain West, quarter with AAC, and a couple two or tree from the ACC if possible. It would be called:
