The obvious omissions... 04 UConn, 05 UNC, 07 Florida, 09 UNC, 12 UK. Not to mention putting 21 Gonzaga over 21 Baylor where the Zags were outclassed start to finish on the floor. Worst of all it includes multiple teams that didn't make either Elite 8 or final 4.

According to @RobDauster, this list is according to kenpom's ratings. The Eye Test was not a factor in creating this list.

It seems like mostly just KenPom end of season numbers. In fact I think that's exactly what it is. Seems kinda wild to attribute definitive accuracy to someone else's model and then not even reference them.

I count 3 teams that didn’t win the chip in their “best” year. or ever

'according to pompom's numbers?'
might as well said 'according to his mom's numbers' for all the sense this makes.
04 Huskies would beat half those teams, and u of fla in 06 and 07 went back to back and belly to belly, which, in like the past million years, never happens. but sure, since 02, they can't be considered one of the best in that span. hey pompom! 538 used to be a thing for useless prognostication once upon a time, too. i bet they all put their 401k in bitcoin.

If they didn't actually hold tournament where the best 50 or so teams play each other until only one teams is left standing this would be a awesome list.

Here in reality, it's as useful as a top ten list of preseason AP rankings.

2004 UConn doesn't ever rate highly in the metrics when it comes to all time teams and it doesn't make any sense to me. They are one of the best teams I have ever seen. They would have wrecked half the teams on that list

They were so good they didn't need to be efficient.

All you people implying or outright stating that the champion is automatically the best team in a given year are simplistic and wrong.

You dont have to be the best team all season if youre the best when it counts

u got a broadly accepted better way to decide the best other than teams actually playing to decide?
feelings and stats don't count. u win, u get cash which u then can give to the electric company.
they don't care aboot ur feelings, or stats ('bbut i paid on time for 23 of the past 24 months! cut me sum slack!' 'no. we'll be swinging by next tuesday to shut u off. have a nice day.'), and will absolutely not accept them as payment.

Yeah, and I suppose that the Patriots were better than the Giants both times too.

Half those teams? The Uconn team that won the title in 04 WRECKS any of those teams. The best team ive ever seen was the UNLV 90 team and i think Uconn gives them a run. Those are the two best teams ive ever seen.

2021 Baylor and 2018 Nova are the only two I wouldn't be 100% confident in beating. Those teams were so lethal from 3 and had zero weaknesses. The rest of the teams on there, yeah I'll take 2004 UConn over them

I would take them over the rest as well including Baylor 2021. Nova 2018, now that would go to 7 games in a best of 7 series. That Nova 2018 team was dynamite. The Florida 2007 team, the North Carolina 2009 team, and the Kentucky 2012 belong in that same top echelon /tier with Nova 2018 and UConn 2004 if we are talking teams since 2002. Going before 2002, UNLV 1990 has to be up there along with Duke 1992, Arkansas 1994, Kentucky 1996, and UConn 1999.

Well, metrics are important and better than just 100% opinion or gut fell, but I agree they are not the end all be all. I mean people need to realize there is a little subjectivity built into the metrics as well.

Looking at Providence this year, sure the Friars were not blowing teams out, but I think the metrics as well as others who followed them dogmatically underrated the value of them knowing how to close out games and win. It was Kevin Freeman who said before the 1999 final against Duke that Duke only had blowouts wins and no close gams while UConn had their fair share of blowouts, but also close games and they knew how to win those close games which is why he felt confident they could beat them.
