What the hell was that? Some of the worst in game coaching you'll see. Sanogo was the best player on both sides of the court. He took him out for what we thought was a 2 minute breather and he never sees the court again. The entire offense was being run through Sanogo. Loss is 100% on coach and that's how you could possibly lose a great young player.

Like I said in the other thread. Kids are kids--they will miss FTs and layups. Turn the ball over, or shoot early in the clock. They have their limitations. We can't change that.

As a fanbase, we need to expect a much better coaching performance from someone making MILLIONS per year. Taking Sanogo out and not putting him back in is the single reason why we lost this game. Everything else is secondary.

Was there even a substitution post under-8?

Literally the only thing I can think of is the gaffney turnover/foul

It’s been obvious he’s not a good in game coach. He yells at the refs and hypes players up but has no clue how to make adjustments. And then takes out the hottest player on the court. He’s just failed so many tests this season when the game is close. Also, maybe teach these kids how to make a layup or a free throw please.

St. John's went small, so I get his thinking, but at some point when you go small to match them and still can't play any defense, you bring in your bigs and go zone. Just terrible coaching

Matt Ehalt...

Hurley's decisions were quite odd. Sanogo was so good, but he pulled him down the stretch.

Again, they need a second scorer. That's the one area Hurley has struggled with recruiting.

The way Hurley coaches, it seems like they come up with a script prior to the game and stick to it no matter what. It seems like they have a set amount of minutes scripted for each player. Guy goes on a scoring run and then rides the pine the rest of the game. Just terribly frustrating to watch.

if a bunch of random people on a fan forum can see the problem, I don’t know how he hasn’t figured it out yet.

There are literally 0 excuses for missing back to back free throws, we absolutely can change that. Asking your point guard to be 2 for 2 from the line or your forward to hit at least 1 of 2 is one of the most reasonable demands a good cultured program can ask for

St John’s played 5 shooters. 4 guards and 1 SF.

They played 5 out the last 8 minutes of the game, meaning all 5 players outside the three point line.

That’s why you saw no help defense, because all 5 were shooters and had to be guarded at the 3 point line.

Whaley is our fastest recoverer on help D, if he couldn’t get there you think Sanogo could? Imagine Sanogo trying to guard a driver from the 3pt line? If Polley is getting blown by, you think Sanogo won’t?

If you go 2-3 Zone and park Sanogo in the middle youre daring a team shooting 50% from three in the game to make threes.

Obviously there’s an edge on the offensive end, but not nearly enough to warrant playing him. You get touch around the rim but lose a ball handler.
