I have recently got an "infestation" of wild violets. Apparently the source is a neighbor who decided she liked violets and innocently added them to her yard. The result is they made it over to my yard.

Not an earth shattering problem but I've worked hard and my lawn is otherwise weed free and these things can apparently take over the whole yard..

I've been trying to dig them out, a few at a time but it is tough to get all of the roots.

Reading on line, there is toxic chemical to apply in the fall.

Anybody have any thoughts on how to handle these w/o the toxic chemical?

Thank you

Thank you but I stopped buying when I heard the associated health concerns (for me , not the violets)

Fire.

Or live with them for the rest of your life.

I bought one of these couple years ago. It works great.

Cover/smother them with a tarp.

I'd burn something done with the touch - lol. And w/ respect to the sheep. I think there might be some clean up afterwards.

Personally, I don't see a weed-free lawn compatible with wanting to avoid pesticides, like you said before.

Would take black trashbags and rip them to form one tarp and cover and hold down with rocks over any area you want to handle. Do not poke holes. It will disallow growth, not allow direct watering, etc and uses no pesticides with chemicals.

Otherwise throw 100 dudes and a gorilla into your backyard - guaranteed violent issue triumphs over violet issue.
