Villanova had an opportunity to join Big east football. James Madison was offered by the Sun Belt.
Both turned them down. And yet we are supposed to believe they are going to upgrade to FBS to go independent?

No.
No.
And no.
UConn went to a BCS bowl and then dropped a P6 conference to go independent. What a long strange trip it’s been.

With JMU going to the Sun Belt and the American in steep decline, replace JMU with Temple in this scenario, with Temple returning to the A10.

lol. Nova & Del aint going FBS, and they sure as hell aint going to be in some "alliance" that will break up as soon as anyone gets a better offer

And why again would this be appealing to Army who already can schedule almost anyone it wants?

2021 ARMY FOOTBALL SCHEDULE
Sept. 4 at Georgia State
Sept. 11 WESTERN KENTUCKY
Sept. 18 UCONN
Sept. 25 MIAMI (OH)

Oct. 2 at Ball State
Oct. 16 at Wisconsin
Oct. 23 WAKE FOREST
Nov. 6 vs. Air Force*
Nov. 13 BUCKNELL
Nov. 20 UMASS

Nov. 27 at Liberty
Dec. 11 vs. Navy (East Rutherford, N.J.)

Georgia State, Western Kentucky, Miami Ohio, Ball State, Bucknell, and Liberty.

Nova, UD, and Temple replacing some of that in actual TV markets that could have TV money over time is reasonable.

if Army’s position is so great and they can schedule anyone they want, why do they have this schedule?

Because they want to go to a bowl game yearly. They need to have winnable games.

So they would be afraid of playing, Nova, Temple, and UD?

Or if not, they’d rather rack up wins outside of top TV markets?

They're Army. They don't need games in top TV markets.

You and others are getting a little lost on this Conference stuff ... and definitely not understanding the alliance word. It is about Television. And with the Texas Oklahoma earthquake, there are gonna be less dollars to the AAC. Less dollars to many. More dollars for the CUSA going to the AAC (from $500k to a few times more). And still flying all over for baseball, women's sports, soccer etc. Plus let's all sing together: Kumbaya. We are not getting pulled into the ACC or B1G. The B12 is dreamy.

Zizzou had it right. We can (UCONN) make decent FB money keeping in our region and playing traditional schools we know. And our future fans (ahem) ... would rather UMass, Army, Temple, Buffalo (and drive to away) than a Coastal Carolina or Georgia Southern or Troy. by a huge amount. And Villanova, Delaware etc.

SO here's a clue: the CUSA commissioner is aggressively going after James Madison to jump FCS to FBS. And the leak yesterday says Sam Houston State and Tarleton are in the conversation to firm up Texas. Blink! You are gonna see two leagues (the new WAC and ASUN) angling from FCS to FBS. Do you really think the northeast stays FCS? There's a drumbeat.

This is an alliance of convenience for scheduling and TV negotiations. It wouldn't have been possible a few years ago as FCS to FBS moves had to be via a conference invite. Liberty changed that with their challenge to move directly to Independent.

This is 5 games in an Alliance schedule. The remaining 7 games would be open to schedule. It is a compromise to a full independent schedule. Either negotiate the Alliance winner into the PinStripe or create a new bowl for the Alliance winner.

Make a TV agreement with Fox, SNY,or YES.

Keep it at this size unless a desired program wants to join as they aren't happy with their own position. Think Temple, Navy, Cincy, Buffalo.

It's not a conference. It's an alliance of football independents.

Nova is the only remaining one at FCS, lol.

This would have been a better path for most than what has actually happened.

With all of the movement from FCS to FBS, are there any rumblings in Nova?

The United Athletic Conference was a merger of the WAC and ASUN with the goal of becoming an FBS football only conference. I don't think that panned out.

"The UAC was denied a wavier-request to be formally recognized by the NCAA as a single-sport conference in 2023, so the UAC is technically unofficial, even with the ASUN and WAC sharing an auto-bid."

"This article was originally published before the 2022 season. All realignment news is updated as of November 27, 2023."

FYI, the University of Connecticut is ranked number 58 national university in the most recent U.S. News & World Report college rankings. Villanova is ranked number 67 in the same category.

Now that army is in the American, I see it unlikely that it would join an independent scheduling alliance. Same thing with the University of Delaware which is now a member of CUSA. But overall it's not a horrible conference, it just needs to be a conference, not an alliance, and you have to find someone who is willing to pay to broadcast the games at a rate of over a half million a year. That may prove difficult.

But hey, it's worth a shot, the first step would be for Villanova to move up to FBS. Frankly, had it honored it's commitment to do so in the big east, that conference probably stays together and both are schools would be getting higher media dollars.

This idea was proposed years ago. No chance now. Was a good idea though imo

I don’t think so. Nova is a bit lost on football. It would have taken another program to lead the way and show the way. I was hoping UConn would pull together a plan for Northeast football.

Ah, if only there was some action 4 years ago. The litter has now been broken up.

It needed to be an alliance and not a conference so that the benefits of the home conference alignments were preserved (Big East, Patriot, etc)
