Disagree. People are underestimating the impact.
The "5G" people are imagining is, essentially, microcell sites using ultra-wideband to blanket an area with gigabit coverage. This won't work for most, because:
1) The telco's won't be able to do this for mass areas of the country. It won't be cost-effective, and lack of poles in many cities make it difficult there, too.
This link has a quote that seems to hint at this - they can't blanket flat, easy Vegas - good luck with other cities!
2) UWB, which is needed for the really great speeds, runs
HOT. Really hot. Crotch-pot-cookin' hot . This will get better, but how much? You can't fully overcome physics.
Don't get me wrong, though - 5G will help the mobile space, but it's not going to be the be-all game-changer that it's touted to be. At least, not as currently constructed.
