Lots of people have Dish in more rural areas. It also creates a big stir in affluent vacation areas when this stuff happens. Places like Vail and Stowe etc. are full of people trying to relax and suddenly they can't watch sports. It won't last.

Not really no. And 5G is going to finish off the few that do.

Wrong and wrong.

5G is being seen as a panacea, when in reality, it won't deliver nearly what people are thinking it will. Even moreso in the rural/remote areas where Dish has strong usage.

Disagree. People are underestimating the impact.

The "5G" people are imagining is, essentially, microcell sites using ultra-wideband to blanket an area with gigabit coverage. This won't work for most, because:

1) The telco's won't be able to do this for mass areas of the country. It won't be cost-effective, and lack of poles in many cities make it difficult there, too. This link has a quote that seems to hint at this - they can't blanket flat, easy Vegas - good luck with other cities!
2) UWB, which is needed for the really great speeds, runs HOT. Really hot. Crotch-pot-cookin' hot . This will get better, but how much? You can't fully overcome physics.

Don't get me wrong, though - 5G will help the mobile space, but it's not going to be the be-all game-changer that it's touted to be. At least, not as currently constructed.

Tomorrow night’s “Thursday Night Football” game will be blacked out to Dish Network and Sling TV subscribers on both Fox and NFL Network if Fox and Dish don’t have a deal in place by kickoff, according to multiple sources. Last week, NFL Net simulcast the game to Dish Net subscribers even as the satellite distributor dropped Fox’s owned-and-operated channels, FS1 and FS2.
