Yeah, yeah. I know they're 10-1. But so is San Fran and it's arguable that Jimmy G is having the same year:

NAMEPOSGPCMPATTCMP%YDSAVGYDS/GTDINTRTG
Tom BradyNEQB1127343962.22,9426.7267.515588.5
Jimmy GaroppoloSFQB1123233768.82,7318.1248.32010100.6

Now look 3-5 years into the future. Josh Allen looks like a keeper in Buffalo. Darnold has had 3 really good games in a row. Hard to see the Pats (amazing) window of success staying open much longer and, you can say, keeping Jimmy G may have extended that out another decade.

Maybe. Probably not.

1. Jimmy G's going to have to stay healthy. He hasn't shown he can do that yet.
2. Patriots won the Super Bowl after trading Jimmy G. How can that be wrong?
3. Depends on how much longer Brady plays. If another 2 years and 1 more Super Bowl win, the answer is no.
4. I'm less impressed by the stats. For one, when Jimmy has needed to step it up, he has done so, like last week, but his stats are not among the best in the NFC because the team is so good. Same goes for Brady, but until this week, Brady hasn't had any time to throw. And suddenly yesterday he did (though in a 35 degree 30 mph winds and rain). I suspect Brady and the offense are about to turn things around big time, especially if the #1 and #2 outside receivers are back next week.

Overall, no way should they have kept Jimmy G. He is always the next hit away from being on IR.

Belechick didn't want to let him go. That tells me it was a mistake. But the Pats owed Brady at the time so he stayed. As a Pats fan, no regrets,

Come on they've been to 2 superbowls and won one since. There's twelve NFL teams that have never won a single one. They'll be OK.

You're also ignoring all nuance. The offensive side of the ball was shredded in the offseason and devastated by injuries on it. They've been pulling guys off the streets and throwing them out there all season. I could list all the transactions and negative impacts, but it's too long (and no one would care anyway so why bother).

They've got 1.5 good skill position guys right now. And the line is a shell.

Jimmy G is playing with a mostly full compliment. He might be dead if he were playing on the Pats right now.

As we all know, most reports of 'inside the Pats organization' stuff are BS.

If Belichick wanted Jimmy over Tom, he would have had him. If Kraft overruled, BB would have left. imo

2018 Round 1:
#23- Isaiah wynn
#31- sony michel
#32 lamar jackson

Hand up, I'm an idiot. Good call.

But if anyone said that at the time, they were an idiot. 4 QBs were drafted before him.

Harbaugh took a big gamble, and won. Credit to him.

Jimmy is a great guy - and was really loved up there. Nobody wanted him to go - but they also understood that TB12 wasn't going to go anywhere. Really just a timing issue. And the Pats weren't going to do what GB did with Favre.

Keeping Jimmy would have been a mistake. Always listen to TB12. As long as the Pats keep the core 4 of Brady, Bill, Kraft, and Portnoy, Superbowls will come to New England.

Eh, I don't know.

Tevin Coleman missed all of September and Breida has been banged up at RB.
Kittle and Goodwin have missed time as well.

Pats let Gordon and AB walk. They have a shared backfield of Michel, White, Burkhead and Bolden. Michel has been kind of a bust (3.4 ypc). I don't feel like the Pats have been shellshocked with injuries that no one else has had.

They played in two SB's, won one and are competing for a 3rd since then. They didn't make a mistake, that stuff is irreplaceable

Plus the Patriots would never make JG the highest paid QB in the league, so chances are he's gone anyhow

yeah I don’t understand how this gets confused. jimmy got what.. 90$ million guaranteed on the free market? Patriots were not paying a quarterback that after 4 games while simultaneously cutting Tom Brady who just won you another super bowl. They were never keeping 2 QBs making 20+ million. It was bad timing.

It's different though. Favre was a lot closer to washed up, and a gunslinger. Aaron was dominating in practice. Brady wasn't washed up, and better than Jimmy.

I'm guessing the OP didn't know or doesn't understand this. The only choice at the time was Jimmy G OR Brady. They would have had to pay Jimmy G over $20mm to keep him. No way you're paying a backup QB that kind of money. So they kept a guy that won them two more SBs in three years. Yeah, pretty dumb.

Disagree. He’s not going to leave the 15 year juggernaut that he built, to start over elsewhere, over Kraft vetoing him on Jimmy.

It’s looking more and more like we might see a SF-NE suberbowl, which will be absolutely epic, especially for this narrative

I dislike 49ers and Pats fans but man for football, what a matchup

Tom got faster, stronger and more agile at 40 than he was at 37, so the Patriots did the right thing in letting Jimmy go. The mistake was not trading him at maximum value.

That said, time has passed and I think, has caught up to Brady. I hope he retires and I hope Stidham is the answer. I think he might be. Still expect that Patriots to draft another QB in the coming draft.

Perhaps, perhaps not. I think his arrogance is a big factor. I don't think this happened anyway so it's pretty much moot.

Pats will just draft Tua after his stock plummets cause of injury concerns and the machine will keep rolling
