I think perhaps your statement was best left unsaid. I also think that perhaps you don't fully understand HIPPA rights nor what is in the best interest of a 19 basketball player. I would suggest however that you envision yourself as Amari or your daughter then move your considerations forward.
Maybe she was just not in shape given the demands of this basketball team. I had one daughter who would run through a brick wall at practice, and another who was counting the minutes from the get go. Everyone brings a different approach.

Coach CD just has a way of putting things that just makes you feel all warm & cozy.

Yes @JellyBean. She says it with love and focus on the development of the kid. Not focused only on the outcome or how it may reflect on her (cd). It’s a great way to develop trust and form an enduring relationship you need to get through th hard stuff “together”. IMO, that is the secret sauce for the team, and why I have admired CD and Geno all these years. Here’s to hoping Amari’s efforts pay off!
For 4 decades CD has been the good cop. I think she has that role nailed.

Terrific article with great quotes. This one stood out to me the most:

She has to become more physical. The game is not a finesse game. It’s a physical (game),” Dailey said. “You saw Notre Dame for one, you look at the Texas post players, you look at post players across the country, it’s physical. That’s something that we have to get better at. Amari has to embrace the physicality of the game of this level.”

Makes total sense to me. There are some players who will always be on the finesse side of the spectrum (ONO for example), BUT those players HAVE to be able to play and excel against other physical players. The same holds true for finesse guards. Even Paige - she got pushed around as a freshman, in spite of a great season, and has worked her but off on getting stronger and playing thru contact.

So it sounds like not only is Amari working on getting stronger, but also on the mental side of embracing physical play. That's gotta be tough for a big who has never played that way before. Gives me a much better understanding of her challenges, but it also sounds like she has a great attitude, and we know she's at the right place to help her get to the best place she can be at as a player.

It's not like she would fare better at a different school. Post players are physical whether you are a top team, mid-major, or a lower echelon team. Just look at the slug fests with ECU and UCF in the American in the past. But she has one of the most infectious-ly positive attitudes on the bench, and I am rooting for her BIG TIME!!

Go Amari!!!

based on comments from the players, and her own, over the years, it's pretty clear that christine is fully capable of being the 'bad cop' too. she ain't no softie, for sure.

I'm curious. Does any criticism equate to bashing? If I observe that the coach tends to only play a player for a short time in many games and not at all in others, am I bashing that player? If I suggest that you can't extrapolate 11 minutes in a blowout win with 6 points into a much larger number of points if she played, let's say 30, am I bashing that player? I'd just like to know the rules.
If your post stays up, it’s ok if not, it went too far

Kinda like pornography - “too much criticism “ defies description but I know it when I see it

-What makes me feel good about the article is that neither the coaching staff nor Amari have given up. and progress is being made.
A big sign of that is that she spent the summer at UConn building up her strength.

As she feels stronger, she will act stronger on the court.

I like her, and still have lots of hope for her. The only questions I wonder about for Amari are focused on internal fire and aggression - can you teach them, can a mental "switch" be thrown.....?

You are replying to the wrong person. I was replying to someone that stated "bashers". Please ask that person. Thank you.

I don't think that the coaching staff really cares about the bashers, including those on the Boneyard. :)
Obviously( to me, anyway), I was not saying that Coach Dailey was responding to bashers; only that certain people here might back off a bit if they inform themselves by reading Dailey's comments. That said, it might not be a stretch to imagine that the criticism of Amari reached some ears. And,yes, coaches who care about their players just might feel a need to respond to bashers. I think I'll imagine that that's why Coach Dailey said what she said.

I really want Amari to succeed. I think she has held up magnificently well as she languishes on the bench. She's happy and supportive despite the hurdles she is up against. That said, I doubt she will be a significant factor in the fortunes of the team. There, I just gauranteed her success. The basketball god loves shoving my predictions back in my face (or other sensitive anatomy).

My phone is acting up - so much for IPhone 13 Mag Plus but could be my old fingers cannot connect with my brain.
Let’s try again, condensed version.
Take no issue with previous posts.
Amari gets about 3 minutes end of Q1; if she does ok, repeat Q 2 & Q3.
Any time in Q4 depends on situation.
Only a thought on possible game time experiment.
I just heard great rendition of the Memphis Queen.
A great line in song, “ A boy became a man that night in the arms of the Memphis Queen.”
Might apply to Amari, “ A girl became a player that night in the arms of her UConn team.
I guess my romantic side is showing but I just am pulling for Amari to make the grade and become a valuable contributor to the team.

Some of these kids have a desire to go pro. Your curiosity doesn’t outweigh the players’ rights to control what information is made public and might have some negative effect on their future plans. After all, WNBA teams might downgrade someone tagged as “injury prone” or who has certain kinds of nagging issues

Everyone is rooting for DeBerry (42). Should the truth be told, most Uconn FAN's are rooting for each Uconn kid. Geno, Team, needs everyone capable of playing at this level.
I'm rooting for Ines and DeBerry. However, (not being Geno) I'm rooting for her to play Big/power forward. She is a capable scorer, tall, and could be very effective 5 to 12 feet around the basket on both O and D.
Ines, Except for Geno defensive scheme, I think she is fundamentally sound and a decent shooter. These are the days to show your stuff.
