Seeded at No. 7 after playing all 20 of their conference games this season, one of just two programs to do so, the Lumberjacks will face the No. 10 Weber State Wildcats (2-19, 2-16) in Monday's first round at the Idaho Central Arena in Boise, Idaho. Tipping off at 5 p.m., the Lumberjacks and Wildcats will be the second game on the court Monday after the No. 8 Portland State Vikings face the No. 9 Eastern Washington Eagles at 2 p.m. Should the Lumberjacks win, they would advance to face the No. 2 Idaho Vandals at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

Upset - Bucky Harkleroad's team pulls off one of the two MAJOR upsets of the day as the hapless Hornets take down Montana. The 3-19 Hornets rally from a 10 point first half deficit as Montana is ice cold from the field.

Harkleroad needed this win to quiet unrest over recent lack of success. In January of 2020 Sac State and NAU engaged in an epic two overtime contest won by the Jacks. Then point guard Caitlin Malvar racked up the first triple-double in NAU women's basketball history.

Four interesting quarterfinal games being played today in Boise.

The most interesting pits the hottest team in the Big Sky Northern Colorado winners of six in a row against Southern Utah the last team to beat them on Feb 4 70-63. UNCO had a 5-point lead with 6 minutes remaining in the game. Southern Utah got blazing hot at the end to win that game.

The NAU Lumberjacks face a challenge in their game against the University of idaho. The Jacks split with the Vandals winning their first game easily (by 22) and were defeated by seven in the rematch.

Idaho put up 90 in their last regular season game. If NAU is hitting their threes this one could be a shootout which would definitely favor the Jacks.

Look for NAU point guard Regan Schenk to be the deciding factor in this game. If Regan looks for her shot it can really open the floor for NAU. Earlier this season Regan became the second NAU player to put up a triple double joining her back court mate from last year Caitlin Malvar.

In her last five games Regan is averaged 17 points and six assists. In the loss earlier the year to Idaho Regan played the full 40 minutes and had three points and three assists. In the Jack's victory Regan played 36 minutes had 23 points on 9 or 14 shooting with five rebounds.

As goes our point guard so goes the team

The other two quarterfinal games have the upstart Sacramento State Hornets advancing against Montana State. Here's wondering if Bucky can engineer another major upset.

I suspect co-coach of the year in Big Sky Binford will have MSU ready. Sac State is looking down the barrel of a 30-point loss.

Number one seed Idaho State faces Portland State. Idaho States swept Portland State earlier in the year and certainly seems to be playing some of their best basketball of the season as they peak at just the right time.

A Portland State upset would rival that of Bucky's win yesterday.

No Bucky level upset in the cards as ISU clapping down on PS 30-15 at the half.

I see that Idaho has continued its So Cal recruiting up, by getting 2 guards that I have seen a lot in Atchley and Gandy. Atchleys older sisters played for Washington and Colorado. One of them switched to track. Both were fast as heck.

She was a former walk on that became a starter due to injury down the stretch for the Final 4 team, she really stepped up for them.

Half the quarters are set as ISU 66 -Portland State 50 and UNCO 63-SUU 59.

Jacks tip at 5pm MST.

Montana State will burst Bunky's bubble beginning at 8pm MST.

Vandals roar out to. 7-0 lead. Jacks respond with consecutive lay ups to narrow score 7-4.

20-12 Vandals. Great energy defensively by Idaho. Jacks arms weary after three barrage last night and NAU 1 for 6 behind the arc.

Vandals double up NAU 28-14 at second quarter media time out. The rout is on. Gotta admire the performance of the short handed Vandals.

Vandals very impressive on defense in dominating NAU. Idaho down 3 key players for....unnamed reasons.

Interesting factoid - the team you don't like from Tucson only played 2 OOC games - that would be them playing each other.

Bunky's hope for a second upset fading. MSU enters 4th in control.

Big Sky semis

Idaho State v Northern Colorado

Montana State v short handed Idaho

Looking like

Idaho State v Montana State final

As expected.

Idaho will need. Herculean effort with 3 key players including Marxen unavailable if the Big Sky is to have an all potato final
