would Liberty want to (or have to) join this league if it moves to FBS?

Liberty would very likely join the Atlantic Sun in football. Very well may be comparable to the Sun Belt to some degree. The WAC is also expanding.

I think Liberty has much higher aspirations than to be in a poor man's Sun Belt.

There had been rumors of Charlotte & ODU wanting to break away from C-USA over travel concerns. If they could get nearby App St, Coastal, Liberty, Ga Southern, Marshall (+ possibly JMU) -- that'd become a strong G5 league.

Agree regarding aspirations. Liberty may even prefer to be independent over an invite from the AAC. It's been busy scheduling but it wans more P5 games of course.

Future Liberty Football Schedules | FBSchedules.com

"The only teams we should have regularity with the next decade are Independents. coastal is already built in. All else should be nationwide P5 teams or top tier G5- NO FCS - pay ODU to come play us every year or so at home to replace FCS team ( they need the $ ). Worrying about creating G5 rivalries is a loser. Use our $ to do what no one else at G5 can do via scheduling. A Purple Haize world tour annually with new cities and venues...much more fun."

"I really don't like the idea of playing a team every single season long term. Teams like BYU, CCU, ODU, Marshall, App state, UConn, and Army should be on the schedule 50-75% of the time. Sometimes taking a year or two off makes those matchups feel more important while still being frequent enough to develop rivalries or at least a little bit of animosity between the teams."

FGCU may decide to field a team with this news. They’ve been kicking it around a lot.
