I think we all know how passionate and dedicated the majority of our fanbase is so it’s nice to see Katz recognize that in his tweet today.

I saw this cbkreport a couple of months ago and we weren’t listed in the Biggest Fan or Passionate Fan category but in the Toxic Fan category.

Let’s just say we are the best fanbase with crazy people that are spoiled and arrogant.

UConn being toxic is curious. If this were in Ollie's final year or so, maybe, but what about the past few seasons suggests UConn is toxic?

For that matter, Maryland's fanbase is toxic? If anything, they're a tad apathetic.

Loses a little cred not including UK in the toxic bunch. I’ve never seen a message board go more schiz ballistic after every loss. It’s actually good entertainment. They are as unhinged as it gets.

I mean, The BY goes over the top in fandom (both directions), but toxic implies taking things too far, personally or otherwise.

And what does Active mean? What makes Providence a worthier school than UConn for that matter?

It's just silly. Indiana isn't active, because they're passionate, and of course UConn can't be passionate because they're toxic.

One edit I would make is to change the title 'Biggest' (Kentucky, Duke, Kansas) to 'Front Runnerest.'

UConn twitter is sort of known as being the most toxic college basketball fans on social media.

I didn't consider Twitter.

You know, unless Connecticut is just a viper pit full of toxicity, that may simply be due to the fact there isn't a critical mass of positive UConn twitter traffic to consistently ratio-away the bile.

This bottom list is obviously bs. Providence is supposed to be in the Good a Chance as Anyone category.

For what’s it’s worth, the amount of providence “uconnlover” accounts that showed up here after we lost a few conference games was pretty toxic per say. In real life, I’ve only experienced one of the nicest fan bases, at least compared to Sox or Yankees fans which is really my only comparison.

This is five years old, but a pretty toxic description:
Put simply, there is not a meaner, more tasteless, ruthless, unscrupulous fan base in the NCAA than the University of Maryland Terrapins. If attending a home game in opposing colors, prepare to face a shower of profanity and bodily fluids. Dare to stick around after a game and there’s a better-than-there-should-be chance you’ll be privy to a riot. Terps fans are an unreasonably nasty and biting collection of people drawn from the same geographic region as Eagles fans who feel it’s their sworn duty to act like complete balloon knots at any sporting event. All this and a whopping one national title to show for it. Who can forget how head coach Gary Williams threw shade at Jim Calhoun and his recruiting methods after Rudy Gay chose UConn over Maryland? Don’t get us wrong, there are years when this team has been up there with the best in the nation. There’s just never been one where the fans weren’t flat out the worst.

I don't know if toxic is correct.

There is ton of people on UConn Twitter constantly trying to one-up the other guy. Like, "Look at me!!!! I dream of UConn all day!!!"

And they're currently number one in the dillusioned category with Kansas nipping on their heels and Arkansas right close to them.

Toxic (like in a relationship) can also imply there and committed when things are good. Fair weather when things get hard.

That was this fan base during the dark days...

I met a lot of UK fans in Dallas at the 2014 Final Four. I found most of them to be very nice people and absolutely rabid UK fans. Many of them had driven to Texas from Kentucky (13+ hrs) because they could not get flights. They also outnumbered Husky fans by a huge margin. I can't argue with their top ranking.

Our dark days were particularly bad though. I don't fault any fan who stopped following the program as much in the Dark Age of Ollie because it honestly looked hopeless. We were stuck with a bad coach, we were stuck in a terrible conference, and we began signing only 3* players. There was a point where I legitimately wondered if we would ever recover. Thank God for Dan Hurley.

I remember when Ollie came to UConn (to play). I remembered feeling he was a good, not great college player that wore his emotions. When he went to the NBA he was also a good, not great NBA player.

So when he came to coach UConn, well, he was an okay, not great coach. Pretty clear that Hurley eats Ollie's lunch in the coaching department.

We have an incredibly toxic fanbase. It seems weird to deny this.
How do you mean toxic? I think we have a tendency to denigrate other fanbases more than most. A need to feel superior, possibly born of the fact that CT is often viewed as an afterthought stuck between NYC and Boston (other than for Pizza and basketball). We talk about "fly over country" but many would call CT "drive over country".

Was going to post the same thing... I think we have tons of fair-weather fans and our fans can be downright nasty to the team and each other. There's a great deal of arrogance and entitlement. Other fanbases think we are horrible. And I don't think they're wrong.

Also, in regards to Maryland. I went to a game years ago at the old Cole Fieldhouse against Duke. It was surreal. Not only was that fanbase/environment passionate to a level that, I'm sorry, far surpasses anything I've experienced with us, but their level of hatred, nastiness, and near criminality was legit uncomfortable.

That’s because Philly, South Jersey and Maryland area sports fans are famously nasty. We have had fantastic crowds for tons of games but you won’t find our fans being borderline criminal in behavior like you do in that area. Honestly, it seems that whole area is full of metro Philly people that are as rude and nasty as it gets in terms of fandom. It makes for a rowdy environment but it’s also a little dangerous and it is never very family friendly.

I am not knocking Philly. I have two friends that fit the mold. They went to Maryland. They are great people, fun to be around and they are big sports fans, but I try not watch the Eagles, Terps or Sixers with them. It is uncomfortable. My wife thinks they are awful.
