Yea it’s too bad that UConn doesn’t play any good teams…… Wait, UConn plays the toughest SOS OOC schedule of any team in the country: MD, Louisville, ND, NC State, TX, UNC, UCLA, KS. Add in the perennial run through the gauntlet of top teams in the Big Dance and there’s not very many “yawners”...

I’m going out on a limb here. If Beers shows up on campus this coming weekend or next, she’ll be a Husky next season. Springtime in CT, hanging out with the team, Sunday brunch at Geno’s. Case closed. :)

She visited OK last weekend for the Spring Football game. To date, she has not announced that she’s a Sooner. If it was a done deal, she could have announced it. Until I hear otherwise, it sounds like Beers is still in play.

Do we know if she has already visited or not? We’ve seen info that Chen from Princeton paid a visit to Storrs. I would not be surprised if Beers was also on campus at that time.

Hard for me to believe that an assistant coach would elevate the Sooners over the opportunity to play for a potential national championship team, in the Basketball Capital of the World, for a coaching staff with an unequalled ability to develop WNBA ready pros.

As the emoji says, “WOW!” I take all this stuff with a grain of salt, but if there is some truth to this, it’s difficult for me to imagine that Beers would choose the Sooners over the Huskies. Then again, trying to predict what young people will do is a fool’s errand.

The video is entitled “Paige Bueckers Going Off in the Lab.” It was posted on YouTube 16 hours ago. While we don’t know for sure when it was originally shot, I have seen a lot of Paige Bueckers shooting videos, many of which where she was with Azzi, but I had not seen this one before.

One of the things we missed from last off-season was those practice videos of Paige hitting like 49/50 3-pt shots in rapid succession. The reason we didn’t see them, is because Paige spent the entire summer rehabbing her surgically repaired knee, so she didn’t spend much if any time in the gym...

UConn assigns GPA’s to letter grades as follows: A (4.0), A- (3.7), B+ (3.3), etc. So by my calculation, Paige took 4 courses in the fall earning 3 A’s and 1 A-. That equates to an average GPA of 3.925, rounded up to 3.93. I have no doubt that Geno is on her about the A- ……..;)

That’s correct. But it would be hard for me to imagine that any player, after completing an entire season playing for a coach, wouldn’t, at a minimum, advise that coach of their plans to transfer prior to listing their name in the portal.

I have no doubt that players discuss entering the portal with their current coach before doing so, since the school itself must post a player’s name in the portal. Sometimes, I suspect coaches talk players out of entering the portal. Sometimes they give their blessing to a player moving on...

As info, there are currently 1,243 WBB players in the transfer portal. Of that total, 395 are graduate transfers. Since this is the last year when players are granted a 5th year of eligibility due to Covid, we can expect a large decline in graduate transfers next season.

Unless their current team agrees to take them back, they will do what generations of college graduates have done, join the real world and get on with their lives….;)

As I recall, Ines was picked up by UConn late in August, after Paige’s injury in summer workouts. She had been heading to a JUCO in FL. I don’t believe Ines got to campus until a week or so after classes had begun. By that time, all the “high profile” transfers already had new schools lined up.

The only “practical limit” would be the start of the fall term, although I would expect that most coaches would want any transfers to be committed and available for the start of summer workouts on campus.

There is a 44 day window for basketball players to enter the portal, from March 18 to May 1.

Little bit of trivia. The Director of NIL Services at the University of Maryland is named Omari DeBerry. Coincidence? ;)
