    WNBA Draft (merged)

You got 'em. Bobby and Richie Haines, twin brothers, played baseball and football at Montclair High in the mid fifties. Coached by the legendary Clary Anderson. Recruited by most of the college football powers ,they instead signed baseball contracts with the Phillies.

I grew up in Morris County in Lincoln Park, with Jim Kiick. Went to Boonton HS. Beautiful horse country out there in Peapack.

How reffing and rules should be changed

My senior year in hs I was called for a technical in the first minute of the first game. Umps, refs, etc stunk then, they still do, nothing will change that. My feelings about officials partly explains why I feel so comfortable on the Boneyard.

Arms Race - The New Formula

Sorry coach, Chen is a very good player, but we have KK. She played well in the tourney, really began to assert herself. She and Shade were given opportunity to play, and both really developed. I want to watch KK continue to get better, and Chen would only get in the way. I think KK can become...

Arms Race - The New Formula

That 2016 team had 9 players with at least 12 minutes, so Geno figured it out that season, and went, as we know, 38-0.

Arms Race - The New Formula

Perhaps these 9 "starters" went to SC with some confidence that they would all get minutes. Last season they had 10 players with double-digit minutes.

Arms Race - The New Formula

So, suppose all the injured( even Caroline) should be healthy next year. Would that be 13 players? Who do you imagine will be coming in at mop-up time for the final 2 minutes? Oh, ok,for one reason or another, there probably won't be 13 players. Still, I think Geno is somehow going to have to...

Arms Race - The New Formula

Why is Dawn the only one who has figured out how to play 9 players? If you play them, they will come. Dawn has somehow convinced players that they will play if they come. If you insist on playing no more than 7 players ....... Iowa was exhausted last night, SC was just warming up.

USA Today: A terrible call ruined a perfect ending to Iowa and UConn's Final Four matchup and fans are livid

Paige showed how to lose gracefully in the post game press conference, something that is beyond many of the posters here. The slow-mo video clearly shows Aaliyah moving. The fact that the ref saw it and called it is, to me, a sign that the officials are not nearly as bad as fans make them out to...

    2024 Final Four Referees announced

The NCAA should have the Boneyard select officials. Of course, if they did they would end up asking for volunteers from the stands for the games to be played at all.

How many times did PB & AE fall to the floor yesterday?

This march to the final four is all the more amazing, when you consider the way that the officials always seem to favor the other team.

UConn-USC Postgame Thread (The Huskies back to the Final Four!!!)

The old refrain: we have Paige! Though, really would prefer separation of god and basketball. I just don't like it, but their choice.

    UConn-Duke postgame thread

I was referring to her second foul with 2+ minutes left in the first half. Left her in,foul #3. Makes no sense. I don't think he understands that it isn't just a matter of being careful in an emotional game, partly because he never played the game at any high level.

Everyone but Geno knew to take Aaliyah out. He's done it many times, and again, almost cost them. Coaching 101.

    Nika's Journey

All that said, UConn needs her on the floor for the whole game. Needs to be more under control than last game, not let emotions overwhelm her, as Brink did last night. .

Why is Ines nailed to the bench?

He's an obsessive perfectionist , which probably has made him a successful coach. But chaos, and not so perfect , is sometimes needed for the greater good. He just can't handle it, so players sit.
  23. boontonbomber

Why is Ines nailed to the bench?

I've always though it's pretty simple. Geno can't stand watching the inevitable chaos that occurs when the bench goes in.
  24. boontonbomber

Why is Ines nailed to the bench?

Yes, court time against anyone is better than bench time. Ditch the "judged in practice" stuff. When you've got so few players, and foul trouble can really put your team in a tight spot, you want to prepare a bit for that possibility. Beyond the laughers, there actually were games against...

Why is Ines nailed to the bench?

A lot of what's being said here is not criticism of Nika. Check the title of the thread again.
  26. boontonbomber

Why is Ines nailed to the bench?

Certainly a mystery, that a coach would not anticipate a situation like what happened yesterday. And get Ines lots of minutes during those laughers in much of Big East play. 2 minutes is no preparation.
  27. boontonbomber

Why is Ines nailed to the bench?

Some would argue that when your point guard gets her 4th foul, it might be necessary.
  28. boontonbomber

Why is Ines nailed to the bench?

Best argument for Ines was to protect Nika from fouling out. Leaving her in almost backfired. I daresay Ines is a better ball handler than Ice, who gave it away at least twice.

    NYU beats Smith D3 championship

Except that the athletes at Smith are definitely jocks. Even if they don't think that dribbling a ball is the most important reason for being at Smith. Living next to campus, have watched their teams compete for many years, and they are every bit as serious about their game as anybody. The...

Aaliyah Edwards expected to be 100% for NCAA Tournament opener

100 %? With a badly broken nose, and wearing a mask? I'd love to see Geno trying to coach with a badly broken nose and mask.
