Why is everyone assuming St John's is out? Lunardi and his ilk are frequently wrong. Is there nobody else besides St John's that can lose their bid? Not that I really care, screw Pitino and the guy in the red coat, let them enjoy the NIT.
Pitino with a NYC team = Tuesday night ratings...
Pitino got one of our guys last year, that ended up being a big win for us, they got Alleyne and we got Spencer. Maybe Hurley had good reason to be mad at the guy (bagman) in the red coat.
The refs continued to prove yesterday UConn has no "sphere of influence" in the Big East. They did everything they could do to help St Johns, and $$$ helps keep the great coaches who are going to demand $$$, so of course you chase the money.
We would be fine wherever we go as long as we have Hurley. It's all about the coaches. MSG resident St John's has been a doormat for 20 years until they finally hired a great coach, which proves there is no such thing as Big East magic, just good coaches and bad coaches. People make fun of...
IMO:
St John's is in because they are hot and they have Pitino, Plus TV will want NYC's team.
Seton Hall in for now but need to worry about bid thieves.
Providence is out. Shame for them their great player tore his ACL. The committee takes that into account.
Nova stinks, get a real coach.
He also has Seton Hall last 4 in and Providence first 4 out. Hall and Providence fans will be on the edge of their seat on Sunday. I think St John's is a lock and Nova definitely out.
I wonder why so many assume they will be great head coaches. It's always a mystery until they actually do it. Didn't Hurley's assistant at URI take over there and flame out? How many Jim Calhoun assistants became great head coaches?
Dayton and VCU are not national brands. The only A10 team that makes any sense for the Big East is the team to our north, who actually finished ahead of VCU this year and almost beat Dayton at Dayton, but that won't happen because everyone wants to protect their territory.
If not for Covid no Joey C last year and no Newton, and possibly Spencer this year. I guess we were the big winners.
You would think more freshman would want to redshirt now to get that valuable (NIL) 5th year.
They draft on potential. He doesn't need to be a great three point threat now, he just needs to show he has the potential to be a good shooter and he has done that. He will be a lottery pick and so will Clingan.
We didn't have a good head coach at the time.
Frank Martin is a terrific coach and has UMASS playing well in his second year. If they can keep him there they will have a good chance of dominating the MAC.
If Clingan keeps playing like he did today (especially the passing) his draft stock will soar. Top 5 or higher won't be out of the question, he looked special today.
