    Gordon Sammis Named OC

Not if you keep the other guy from scoring. You need to score 1 more than they do. If they score 50 you need to score 51. If you hold them to 6 you only need 7. I just want to win.

There is something to that. I heard the old Va Tech coach, Beamer, speak on rebuilding one time and he didn’t pull any punches on what he called scheduling for success. He pushed to add an FCS opponent every year, and get games with teams they could beat rather than load up on big names. The...

    Gordon Sammis Named OC

I will also say I probably have a slightly different view than many here. We win 45-44 or 2-0, I don’t really care. Just as long as we score 1 point more than the other guy. I found our 10-7 win over BC in 2022 to be as exciting a game as I’ve watched. Every play was critical, especially in...

    Gordon Sammis Named OC

That’s my reading. Every coach in America say we want to run even if he doesn’t want to run.

What Can We Expect From The Offensive Line?

We brought in the guy from Syracuse. I don’t remember any other oline guys, but I haven’t checked either. Plus we have some redshirts who should be more prepared to play. I’m not overly worried honestly because I think we have a very good oline coach in Sammis. Probably the best since Mike Foley.

    Matthew Wood to the Portal

We aren’t moving to Atlantic Hockey. We want to regularly go to the Garden for the Hockey East championships and get to the NCAA tournament on a very regular basis. That isn’t easy in Hockey East. But then, UMass was a dog for years. They aren’t now. Maine struggled for several years. They...

ACC replacement list: UConn, USF, Memphis, Tulane, Washington State, Oregon State

LOL! Don’t be silly. You NEWBIE fanboys are a riot. Because the coach at Rhode Island would never leave for a job with a 4 time NCAA champion. Houston also got to the Final Four in 2021 and the Elite 8 in 2022 out of the AAC. And FWIW, he wasn’t getting the Pitt job, so don’t go there. But...

    Reorganizing the NCAA's three divisions

But again, Sankey isn’t talking about football here. He wants to kick 150-175 schools out of D1. Not for football. Most are already not playing D1A football. He is trying to grab extra cash and extra prestige of getting bids for his conference. Of course, “I can’t wait for .500 Ol Miss to...

    Reorganizing the NCAA's three divisions

They could, but there is a big difference between winning a recognized national championship and one with only other P2-4 teams. Imagine an NCAA hockey tournament without BU or Denver or North Dakota. Or lacrosse with no Hopkins.

    Reorganizing the NCAA's three divisions

If you are talking football, some type of division is probably likely. In fact you could argue it is already here in practice if not officially. Basketball is very different, though and I suspect everybody loses in a stripped down NCAA tourney and certainly a P2 Championship. I am guessing an...

    Starting Quarterback

This is where I am, too. I think he was still recovering early in the season but doing better late and it showed. Plus he did a nice job bringing them back late in a couple of games. U-State the kicker missed an extra point after he drove them for the apparent tie. USF (?) he had a td that...

    Reorganizing the NCAA's three divisions

But that’s a lot harder than just taking bids from smaller leagues. And less embarrassing than your big dog losing to Oakland! If Oakland is kept out, you don’t need to worry about losing to them. Oh, and what does USNWR ranking have to do with athletic performance?

Wild Dreams: The BE Could Kill the ACC

Congratulations on being the first person to post that this is the year that Miami returns to the top. There will be many more. Then Miami will start with a bang then lose a bunch and everyone will will write how NEXT year Miami will be the year Miami turns it around.

    Reorganizing the NCAA's three divisions

I am not disagreeing but Sanky is talking basketball. There aren’t 362 D1 football schools. He wants fewer schools so Ol Miss and LSU can get to the tournament instead of Oakland and St Peters. He’ll justify it any way he can. Just as long as he gets more bids.

    The Next Shocks

Yeah and great players generally choose their schools based on AAU membership:p Nebraska’s problems go way beyond no longer being AAU.

    Reorganizing the NCAA's three divisions

The only pressure it is putting on NCAA Championships is that the SEC and Big aren’t getting bids for every team. It is the early round upsets, Oakland over Kentucky, St Peters, Duquesne, Yale that makes the tournament fun and popular.

2 thoughts. 1. I imagine that went over well in academic circles. 2. Nebraska is toast under this model. And I’ll add a 3rd. This guy is a putz.

Wild Dreams: The BE Could Kill the ACC

We will see. I have my doubts. They haven’t exactly been burning it up over the last decade. Last year they had a Heisman trophy QB and an supposed offensive wizard as a head coach and finished 7-5. Haven’t sniffed a National Championship in 20 years. And it is going to get tougher, not...

Wild Dreams: The BE Could Kill the ACC

You are exactly right on Miami. They are perfectly happy being a mid-tier program. Though I have heard they are sniffing around the Big 10. But not selling power. Selling academics and access to the SEC market. They get unless your name is Notre Dame, a private school isn’t competing at a...

    The Next Shocks

I agree with a fair amount of this. I am actually shocked there hasn’t been a major gambling scandal yet! Though I disagree that football is easier than basketball. A safety can “slip” but qb still needs to be accurate the receiver still needs to make the catch. In basketball, even great...

Wild Dreams: The BE Could Kill the ACC

Well, kind of everybody. USC wanted out and it was something of an open secret that they were interested in the Big 10. The rumor had been around before. Texas and USC was talked about at one time. Just had to figure out the how part. I think the Big would have preferred not to take...

Wild Dreams: The BE Could Kill the ACC

Big, some would say huge, difference between going to the Big 10 and going to the Big 12. Cal and Stanford feared being left behind entirely and ending up In the MWC. That is way different than being in the ACC. USC wanted out of the PAC for a decade. Always felt they were held back by...

    PAC dysfunction

The funny thing about the Big 10 expansion is that none of the new teams have been particularly successful outside Penn State, who has had a Sort of Iowaish existence. When one of the big dogs struggle, they have a shot. Otherwise they are the B squad. I am guessing that the western adds will...

The next dominoes (April 11 edition)

I wonder how everyone feels about Swofford now. I think this will be much more similar to the B12 breakup than the Big East. They will loose 2-3 teams, most likely Clemson, FSU and one of Miami, UNC or Virginia. Maybe the B12 tries to pick up a few, but I don’t expect it. I think ultimately...

    PAC dysfunction

I couldn’t read the article but the gist seems to be UCLA and Washington will struggle, USC and Oregon might be more successful in the Big10. I think that’s probably about right though I think all 4 will ultimately struggle to be relevant in a conference where they are out numbered and need to...

    The State of College Hockey

Somebody explain to me why they put regionals where there is no college hockey. St Louis, Cincinnati, Maryland? I still think it would be better to have 2 or 4 fixed sites where teams always play. In college hockey “hotbeds.” Make it an annual event on the local calendar.

ACC replacement list: UConn, USF, Memphis, Tulane, Washington State, Oregon State

I think the outcome is much closer to the B12 outcome. It loses a couple of teams, and backfills with UConn, and whoever make sense of the rest of the list. The other thing I think people are sleeping on a bit is the potential that the Mountain West gets an upgrade of sorts. There really...

ACC replacement list: UConn, USF, Memphis, Tulane, Washington State, Oregon State

Right. And it would recreate the football-basketball thing again. Whatever deal is made the basketball onlies would want a bigger piece of the pie than they deserve, as would the non-productive members. I think for us the best result is to join the ACC for all sports. I’m not convinced that...

ACC replacement list: UConn, USF, Memphis, Tulane, Washington State, Oregon State

There are such people around Chapel Hill, Durham and Raleigh. Historically the ACC is a basketball centric league with good, not great, football. Florida State has never been a great fit. They were unbeaten in the league for something like 7 years, for heaven sakes.

Kentucky to Hire Mark Pope LOL

Here is a guy who built a program at a low mid-major, then at a low major (not exactly sure how to classify BYU over the past few years) who now goes to a power school. I actually think it makes sense to hire a guy like that. We’ll see how it works out. If they give him a couple of years, I...
