After last nights shocking losses by So Carolina and Notre Dame what are the players thinking? Like last night both teams are huge favorites to win today and in UConn's case, media has all but written them into the Final Four and many the National Championship.

Are the players saying that's not going to happen to us, and just ignores the So Carolina & Notre Dame losses?
Are they saying, if we're not careful, that could happen to us. Adding more pressure on themselves?
Are the players saying they were shocking losses and don't even relate it to what they want to accomplish today? It has no bearing on us.
Will the coaches be using last nights results during morning meetings, warmups, pre game speeches?
Any other thoughts the players & coaches might be having?

I expect that both Florida St and Miss St coaches will be mentioning last nights results. :)

But watch out for that championship game. All of those teams are motivated: Washington, Tennessee, Syracuse, Stanford. Each would love a shot at Connecticut. And Connecticut would probably love a rematch with Stanford, an opportunity to put Tennessee in its place for good, and to get back at those "trash talking" Syracuse players that Maya Moore was so disgusted with that she had Coach Geno keep her in the game so that she could wipe them off the court.

This tournament is suddenly fascinating. ESPN must be going nuts with its new storylines. Knoxville resurrected and now in the Battle of the Oranges with the strutting, preening Q...which in turn presents possibilities ranging from excellent to off the charts if either has to meet UConn. Or all those beauty shots of Palo Alto, film segments of Tara at the keyboard, and the family Samuelson movie of the week opportunities. And never discount the electric presence of Kim Mulkey. How about Huskies and Huskies ?

They're holding meetings 'round the clock in Bristol from now until the the tournament ends.

The earth is flat, and all of the higher ranked teams fell off the edge last night. It was, however, a good Friday for oranges and plums. On an Easter weekend, the Lady Vols continued to flaunt their resurrection talents. Their success was primarily due to the discovery of a large person under the basket who has been unable to score much because Diamond doesn't like to share. The other orange, Syracuse, devised a clever plan to combat SC: lock down the bigs and let the others fire away from outside. The Gamecocks missed more than a dozen 3's in the second half alone. Unless Dawn can unearth a first-rate guard, the future is not bright in Columbia. The Left Coast continued to impress with Washington (“the other Huskies”), Stanford, and UCLA still upright. Besides the wonderful Plum, a very large woman with the ugliest 3-point shot in basketball dominated. And speaking of treys, there was the middle Samuelson sinking a miracle shot that helped separate Stanford from the Irish and might qualify Karli for sainthood at the Vatican. Now we know why Lou came to UConn: so the family could have two kids in the NC game

So: it appears the proxy championship game will come in the final four when the real Huskies tip off with Baylor. Great night of WCBB.

Well, I think Muffet and Dawn must have a newly found appreciation for what Geno and UConn have accomplished thus far. It is a lot easier being the hunter than the hunted. Unfortunately for ND and SC, being the hunter only happens when they play UConn. On the flip side, UConn has been hunted for 70+ games now and has not missed a beat (so far). Truly remarkable.

I know exactly what the Huskies are thinking; they have to run their offense and make shots, rebound the basketball and play good defense against Mississippi State this AM. That's all this coaching staff will allow them to think about. They focus only on themselves and what they need to do, which is what sets them apart.

Some folks would be grateful for playing on Saturday rather than Freaky Friday. But the key is to take care of business. Be in the moment and execute against a good Miss State team. The crowd will be loud! I'm in my way from Stamford. Go Huskies!

Baylor fan here.

The shocking upset losses of Notre Dame and South Carolina serve a dual purpose.

They serve as as inspiration for the underdogs(Miss State, Florida State) while at the same time serving as ominous reminders for the big dogs(Uconn, Baylor).

Geno and Kim will both make it clear to their teams that losses to inferior opponents can and do happen.

Regardless of last night's result... the sky has not fallen in Columbia, yet. We're upgrading our guards and recruiting better guards. We'll be fine, our future is bright.

Dawn needs to have her pen and pad ready this summer. She needs to put down the phone and spend the entire dang summer picking Auriemma's brain and learning from him. She better.. it's what I would do in her situation.
