US S.C. to hear case on use of race in college admissions

    Republicans are practically gleeful that the Supreme Court has accepted this case into its docket. They would like nothing better than to eliminate race as a criteria for college admissions.

    What the Right does not realize is that nationally, acceptance rates for women applying to college are about 13 percentage points lower than they are for men. In essence, it is harder to get into college as a young woman because so many schools want to maintain at least some level (even if it is 40/60) of gender balance. As a result, young white males have essentially become a protected class in college admissions, which would be eliminated with this ruling.
