Winners of nine of 11, the UConn baseball team (15-8) begins American Athletic Conference play this weekend with a trip to the Big Easy for a three-game set at Tulane (17-8). The Huskies and Green Wave will play Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. (all times Eastern) at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.

Tulane hosts UConn with a 17-8 record, including an 11-4 mark at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. The Green Wave broke into the polls earlier this season after an impressive start under first-year head coach David Pierce. Tulane's strength comes from its pitching, currently holding a 2.25 ERA to lead The American. Friday starter Corey Merrill has made six starts and pitched to a 1.33 ERA, striking out 36 against nine walks in 40.2 innings. Emerson Gibbs has made three starts and holds a 2.03 ERA, while Tim Yandel figures to start Sunday with a 2.43 ERA on the season. At the dish, Stephen Alemais leads the Green Wave with a .347 average and has scored a team-high 24 runs. Hunter Hope and Hunter Williams are tied for the Tulane lead with four home runs and 14 RBIs apiece.

We know what our pitchers are... will be interesting to see if their pitchers match their stats. They only have 1 guy hitting over .300 so our pitchers should be up to the task. Our team SLG and OBP are both 50 points higher than theirs so it seems we have a better lineup overall.

They only appear to have one serious SB threat who is 14/18 on the year, rest of the team is a paltry 10/19. Keep Alemais off the basepaths and we should have no issue eliminating steals as a threat. However, their opponents are 10/29 stealing against them so it should be interesting to see how Sundberg/Daniello do.

Defensively, their DP and CS rates are pretty good... I wonder how much of that is from luck (read: unsustainable) versus actual solid defense. Betting there will be a lot of frustrating innings for both teams this weekend. Need to capitalize on any mistakes Tulane makes in the field while limiting our own. Both teams give up an average of 1 unearned run per game.

As always the goal is 2 out of 3 which is certainly doable but never easy on the road. My prediction is one game is an easy W where we knock their starter out early and win an 8-3 type game with the other two games being low scoring toss ups.

Connor David is the DH for the first game of the series, his first start of the season. Perhaps there will be an update on WHUS on the status of Joe DeRoche-Duffin, who hasn't played since getting beaned in the helmet in last Sunday's game.

According to Chris Jones, DeRoche-Duffin might be back on Sunday.

RBI hit by Testani scores Willy Yahn in the top of the 2nd. 3-0 UConn.

Top of 3rd. Uconn 3-0. Cross retires first 6 batters he faced.

From WHUS, sounds like Tulane plays in a High A or AA stadium.

New Orleans does have a AAA minor league team. They actually play in the suburb of Metairie.

A number of college teams in the south and out west play at campus ballparks that seat 5,000 plus.

Carson Cross gets into a jam in the 5th inning, but does not allow a run. Still 3-0 going into the 6th.

6-0. I was setting the draft order and keepers for my fantasy league, while listening to WHUS, but apparently I am missing a good basketball game b/t NC State and Louisville. Catch you all later.

Chris Jones said that Devin Over did not make the trip. He's getting an MRI on his shoulder next week.

Wow - we seem to have a nice mix of solid hitting and pitching.
