Melley bails us out of another base running blunder with his first dinger of the year. 3 run shot. 7-2 after four.

Where's Daniello? Just getting the day off?
He pinch hit in the 9th on Sunday. That coupled with not getting the start today would lead me to assume he is a little banged up.

Thought I heard on radio call it was a ?tender hamstring?

Nepiarsky gets another Tuesday relief appearance. Speaking of banged up, Davey was hit by a pitch in the back of the neck below the helmet, according to the WHUS broadcast, and had to come out of the game.

Hamstrings can become nagging injuries pretty easily. I'd give him tomorrow off even if he seems ready. Playing a UMass Lowell team that is 9-19.

Hopefully they give Nepiarski or Brown the 9th. Ideally they'll have a game like this in a conference game soon so the two of them can get some weekend experience.

Melley went 4-4 today with a double, a homerun, 4 RBI, and 3 R. Him getting hot is huge for this team's chances at winning the conference (and getting an at large or auto bid to the NCAA tournament).

End 8 | #UConn 13, UMass 2. Callahan Brown enters for the Huskies to close this one out.
Brown works around an error for an otherwise spotless inning. He has now pitched 4 innings this year with 7 K's, 0 BB's, and 1 hit allowed. Obviously a tiny sample size but I would still like to see him get more work considering even our go to relievers can't throw strikes to a third of batters.

Edit: P.S. UConn wins 13-2

I know it's only mid-week games against lesser competition but Brown and Nepairsky come in and they throw strikes. May need to start getting these guys more meaningful pitches on the weekend. Especially in situations with guys on base because Holmes, Darras and Ruotolo all seem to struggle with control right out of the gate so ideally you would like them to start innings.

A couple of weeks ago during a post game interview, Chris Jones asked Penders about possibly either Brown or Nepiarsky getting some weekend pitching action. It sounded like Penders thought it would be more likely to happen with Nepiarsky than Brown. While they both have had some success in very limited action, Penders said that Nepiarsky has done much better than Brown in practice.

Game Notes
  • UConn is now 88-71-3 all-time against Massachusetts
  • UConn has scored at least seven runs in eight of its nine games against New England neighbors this year and has hit double-figures in four of those contests
  • Vinny Siena notched his team-high 19th multi-hit games, Max McDowell and Jack Sundberg both recorded their 17th
  • Bobby Melley hit his first home run of 2015 after launching four as a sophomore last season

  • Callahan Brown and Samuel Nepiarsky have combined for eight shutout innings in seven cumulative appearances, striking out 11 against one walk
Up next, UConn continues its nine-game home stand and hosts UMass Lowell on Wednesday in a game moved up to 2 p.m. The meeting will mark the first contest between the Huskies and River Hawks since 1940.

Montgomerie has held Lowell scoreless through 2. JDD homers in the bottom half of the second to put the Huskies on top 1-0.

Daniello is once again not playing today. Hopefully it's just a precaution to make sure he's ready for the weekend series. Unable to listen to the radio feed so I don't know if they've addressed it or not.

Testani 2 run blast to make it 4-0 in the bottom of the 4th. Siena hits one of his own to make it 5-0.

Montgomerie is rolling.

6 innings in the books for Montgomerie so far. 6 Ks, 2 BBs, 1 H.

This is now his longest start of the season (previous long was 5.1 IP against Hartford).
