Top of the 6th and in typical fashion they have 9 hits but only 2 runs to show for it. Up 2-0, then which is usually the case our pitchers get wild. Marzi walks the leadoff guy. Next guy gets a bunt single on a sac attempt. Next batter we barely get out at first on successful sac. 2nd & 3rd and one out and we choose to intentionally walk the 5th place batter to load bases. Just don't get that decision and sure enough to what I was thinking was going to happen, Marzi walks in a run. Marzi then settles down and gets a K then a pop up. 2-1 going to bottom of 6th.

Meanwhile, Temple just took out their starting pitcher in the 7th inning after throwing 141 pitches, according to Chris Jones. UConn up 4-1 at time of pitching change.

Anyone know why Penders doesn't seem to be playing Sullivan much anymore? Injury of some sort?

Penders talked about this on WHUS post game interviews last weekend. Sullivan had gotten a long look but just wasn't hitting enough for a DH, so he moved on to the next candidate to see what they can do. Garabedian did well last weekend, so he is the DH today.

Ruotolo comes out of the pen and throws three hitless, walkless, scoreless innings to get the save. Overall, UConn gets excellent pitching and just enough offense to win.

Ruotolo got nine outs about as easy as one can. Uconn wins game without a single extra base hit and solid pitching. Been the story all year. Got little to nothing out of 5-9 today in the order.

Pre season, Penders told JoeD, on TIC, that Sullivan had tremendous hitting potential. He also said Sullivan wasn't a 3b at this level. He was highly regarded out of HS. Have to wonder what his future here is. Same with Olmstead.

From the interviews Penders has given with Chris Jones and WHUS this season, he still sounds very positive about Sullivan's bat, even if he hasn't produced yet. Penders has said a few times that Sullivan was the best UConn hitter during the fall, which accounts for how long Penders stayed with Sullivan at DH. I haven't heard Penders talk much about Olmstead since the season started, but I got the idea that he has a lot of trouble making contact with the ball.

- UConn now has four straight 10-plus hit games.

The squads will return to the diamond on Friday, April 18 for game two of the three-game set. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.

To me it seemed like Sullivan was just starting to make strides at the plate when he stopped playing him? If his potential is that great I think he should be playing him as this offense can use any spark it can get.

Sullivan was hitting a just a bit better than he had been earlier in the year, but it was hardly a big leap forward. Actually, I was surprised that Penders didn't start rotating other players into the DH spot earlier in the season.

Eric Yavarone is getting a day off today. It's been a typical Yavarone year, starting out fast and then slowly fading. Batting average is ok, but slugging and on base percentages are not very good at all. Still, it isn't as if other players on the team such as Sullivan, Darras, and Garabedian have hit enough yet to present a challenge to Yavarone's spot in the lineup.

Agree. Top of the first today is a perfect example of only knock on our pitching staff. Wildness. 2 outs and no one on base. Tabakman then with a walk, hit batter, wild pitch and then an infield single scores a run. 1-0 going to bottom of 1st

4-2 Temple. Two straight innings they are able to get clutch 2 out hits. Runner got on by a walk. Would be nice if we could get a clutch hit every now and then. This is a series that this team should be able to sweep.

Why start that now??? Maybe they'll have luck with the relief pitcher that just came in.

2nd & 3rd with 2 outs. Time for one of those clutch hits ATLDYKA was talking about.

Was just going to write that. Here's our chance with our leading batting average batter up in Melley.

Leave the bases loaded as Siena continues his struggles.

Never mind clutch hits. Right now the offense consists of Davey, Melley, and to a lesser extent Daniello. Those guys are doing fine. The rest of the offense isn't doing much of anything in any situation. What they really need is for Siena to regain the form he had before his illness during the Philadelphia series and for McDowell to start hitting more like he did last year.

Getting McDowell and Siena to hit like last year would certainly help. Not sure what other options we have in center but might be time to get someone else in there for Sundberg. He strikes out way too much. It seems that he doesn't get much more than bunt singles. I am almost ready to see Testani in center. He strikes out a lot too but he can hit you an extra base hit every now and then.

Thank goodness for Davey. Clutch 2 run shot to tie it up bottom of the 9th 4-4. That announcer sure was excited.
