The Blue Knights end the regular season undefeated. Cheshire needed a win today to make the CIAC Playoffs.

Thought Southington was realigning to the SCC
Previously the Knights played New Britain after the City of New Britain closed Pulaski High School. And before that, (Yeah, I'm the ancient mariner) Southington vs. Plainville was New England's oldest continuing High School football ThanksgivingSouthington is solidly CCC and Cheshire is SCC. They have played every year for Thanksgiving (Apply Classic?) since the late 1990's. Before, Cheshire used to play North Haven; but, Cheshire had dominated that rivalry for a while and at the time, CHS has about 1,200 (now 1,600) students while NHHS had about 800 (now 1,200) and they are not bordering towns. Thus, Cheshire, right around the time the SCC was formed, started to play neighboring Southington (now 2,000) for Thanksgiving instead. The Rams controlled the series early during Cheshire's big winning streak; but, Southington has controlled it lately. Not sure who Southington played before for Thanksgiving.

The big game this past weekend was Darien coming from 21-0 down to beat New Canaan in OT, 28-21. Third year in a row Darien beat them on turkey day, but they will likely meet again in the L finals in a couple weeks. NC has won the last two state title games vs Darien. These teams are very good. Tough to stop the spread and both QBs are juniors
This might be the last state playoff matchup for these two schools for a while. Darien is the largest L school in terms of boys attendance and will likely be LL next year.
Southington might be really good but know one knows since their SOS is not good at all, and all season they had to adhere to that ridiculous 50 point rule. MaxPreps has their own state poll that is weighted 10% towards SOS and league strength based on OOC games. Hence, in the MaxPreps poll Southington is ranked #2 behind Darien, and New Canaan (with one loss) is ranked #3.Cheshire used to play North Haven prior to Southington
