Ever since my in-laws moved from eastern Montana to the Phoenix area five years ago, we visit every summer break and plan to visit again in mid-August.

We love Phoenix in winter and spring, but it's, as you can imagine, an indoor city in the summer. So, to escape the heat, we tend to road trip with the in-laws. One of their favorite road trip cities is San Diego and they plan to take us there for two nights at the tail end of our trip.

Both myself and my wife have never visited and we basically have no idea about the city aside from the amazing weather and the zoo.

Any suggestions?
