This analysis was performed by Texasjeremy on a Big 12 board and I have lifted it....He did not mistake spelling of simulation...my finger hit wrong key and I can't seem to correct title.

Say we do this (using cfbdatawarehouse all-time ranking, http://www.cfbdatawarehouse.co...am_rankings.php), putting teams into 10 groups of 8. I will start at the beginning of the BCS era and see what it would look like today after promotion/relegation (2 up, 2 down per year). When I started this, I had no idea what the results would look like at the end. It appears the name of the game is have some good years, but DO NOT bottom out for a sustained amount of time.

Actually... I wondered at the methodology...he had Tulane, which surprised me.

If you like, I can delete the analysis.

Yeah. We should enter in 2003. Why are Tulane, Southern Miss, SMU, Rice, Miami (OH), Louisiana Tech, and Army included based on pre-BCS performance, but not UConn, an actual BCS team?

You can see why the cutoff was set at 80, to keep out teams like #81 Lafayette (PA), #83 Lehigh (PA), #84 Holy Cross (MA), #86 Mount Union (OH), #87 Columbia, #88 North Dakota State, #89 University of Chicago, #93 Texas A&M-Kingsville, #94 Bucknell, #95 Villanova, #96 Furman, #98 Saint John's (MN), #100 Wisconsin-Whitewater, #101 Washington & Jefferson (PA), #105 Linfield (OR), #106 Wittenberg (OH). And so on. Yet somehow UConn did not even make the list: http://www.cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/rankings/all_time_team_rankings.php

It could have been a mildly interesting exercise if you included all of the P5 and top G5 teams today, and sorted them for standing. But it would still have major difficulties. In relegation systems the teams in a group play each other, so their records distinguish who is best in the group. How do you compare a Southern Mississippi in CUSA with Illinois of the B1G based on records? Who knows who is better?

This lost credibility having Army included in the top 80 at the beginning and end of the BCS era over us. Army has had 1 season at .500 or better since the BCS era. That is the epitome of being bottomed out for a sustained period of time.

Maybe what is going on is that UConn was not a IA program in 1998 (while Army was)....UConn was a transitional !A program in 2000-01.

UConn's first win over a IA opponent was on Sept 16, 2000...a win over Buffalo.

Thanks for the history lesson. Now that you've got us up to speed, you can probably find something more productive to do with your time.

He just cannot accept that like BC, FSU is afraid of UConn. Can you imagine what would happen in Tallahassee when UConn beats FSU in football in a couple of years!

Haha it would be funny to see FSU fans chalk up UConn as a "good loss" for them.
