Slow day. Started to think outside the box. If UConn decided to go outside the family post-Calhoun, what are people's thoughts about Danny Hurley? I think he is doing a great job at Wagner, is young, would potentially stay for a long time and would recruit the hell out of the northeast. In my opinion, although he is not a better coach than Brad Stevens, I feel he is a better fit. Any thoughts?

interesting name but he has no big time recruiting expierence. maybe if KO and crew stayed on with him.

i seem to think Frank Martin might get a look if we went outside the family. guy may be the only JC type in college basketball. uconn is branded by JC and his style of coaching, FM would fit that more than others.

He's got a solid recruiting class coming in next year at Wagner. It's pretty remarkable that he's 22-5 (I think) and hasn't even gotten his players in there yet.

And does anyone actually think that Danny Hurley, who used to coach St. Benedict's himself and whose flippin' father coaches St. Anthony's, wouldn't be able to get players?

I happen to think it's a matter of time before he's coaching a Big East program

Brad Stevens is a terrible choice for UConn. He would not recruit well at UConn and I'm not ready to play the boring Stevens style of basketball. Hurley is being groomed for another job. He will be a great coach wherever he ends up but it won't be UConn.

I would favor Shaka Smart right now, but Hurley would be a pretty interesting choice, too. He has done a nice job at Wagner and I don't think with his family connections he's have much trouble recruiting.

Hurley still is a bit light in the head coach category. But, with his recruiting contacts (pop) he could recruit the hell out of the northeast. In 2-3 years Hurley would be a tremendous candidate. Unfortunately, in 2-3 years someone will have scoffed him up by then.

I think uconn should stay in the family. They can always make another choice down the road.

Calhoun and Ray Ray support Ollie. I think it's best to defer to these two gents.

Having a Hurley as the coach of uconn is gross and disgusting, and much, much worse.

Everyone needs to cool down with smart. I'm sure he's a fine coach and will probably have a great career but he did only make one run last year. If they lost in the sweet sixteen nobody would be talkin about him si does winning one more game really make him that much better of a coach? What has larranega done after their final four? Not saying I wouldn't want smart, but people are too high on him after makin one nice run

I just don't see any qualified candidates within Calhoun's coaching tree at this point. Even some recent success as a head coach at a lower level would be nice, and I just don't see any. Ollie is intriguing because he seems to be a good recruiter, well-liked, respected, and potentially capable, but hiring a guy whose coaching resume consists of two years being third in command scares the hell out of me. Obviously there is no sure thing, but I just feel like hiring internally to replace legends has been a poor strategy historically.

The guy who recruited most of Smart's players is at Alabama now.

Just throwing his name out there, and I know I'll catch a lot of flack, but how about Rick Barnes? Not the greatest coach, but has had Texas in the NCAAs 12 consecutive years and took them to the final four and then lost in the elite eight twice. Gets some talented players as well, and you'll have to win the big one eventually if you consistently have the talent he has. Not as much potential as some other coaches in my opinion, but he would probably be one of our safest choices for the program's future.

Sean Miller is going to get a hard look and if we offer it to him I think he will think long and hard about accepting.

Anthony Grant should get a look and if I were him I would want out a football school.

Those are my top two choices, from everything that was speculated around the CBB world last season and his based on his family and relationship with JC I think Sean Miller will be the guy.

The guy had Kevin Durant on his team and couldn't make the Sweet Sixteen.

So Ray Allen, a guy who has coached just as many games as Ollie, should be the one to choose our coach? The blind loyalty to Ollie by some people is mind boggling.

Guy has been on a bench coaching for 18 months and has 0 experience.
