I love Birch Beer and it compliments pizza somehow. Absolutely can't find it in Cincy.

Pepe's serves Foxon Birch Beer too
My top ten
1. Nuzzo's - Madison
2. DaVinci - Deep River
3. Little Rendezvous - Meriden
4. Roberto's - Monroe
5. Pepe's - New Haven
6. Sally's - New Haven
7. Pizza Pub - Ess e x
8. Luigi's - Old Saybrook
9. Illiano's - Old Lyme
10. Ash Creek - Bridgeport

Grew up eating Little Rendezvous pies and haven't stopped. Still one of the best around.

Truth that the satellites aren't as good as original. I've eaten at a couple. Mohegan sun pepes and Fairfield county pepes. Not the same. Don't know what it is ( has to be 100 year old brick oven I guess?) still awesome ah-beets though and better than any other option.

All kidding aside the oven plays an enormous role in the quality of the finished product.

The best pizza is Greek style pizza. Anyone remember Rialto Pizza in New London? It was the best. Marblehead House in MA is also awesome. All the rest--Pepe's etal --are pretenders. Of course that's just my opinion. But I'm right!

I think the world of you Nos but unless Greek pizza from southeastern CT is far closer to Neopolitan than Greek pizza from the southwestern part of the state I cannot dislike the post (and dissent from the opinion) enough. I will admit that I've never had Rialto or Marblehead but will also (for the purpose of full disclosure) admit that two of my grandparents were born in Italy and one was born in Greece.

I think he's gotta be trolling . No other explanation. Pizza cut in squares makes me chuckle. ( unless it's a nice slice of NYC Sicilian)

Colony is the best. Rico's imitates them and is very good. Pepe's just isn't on the same level.

Dominos 5-5-5 deal needs to come back now.

I agree that Pepe's isn't in the same stratosphere. I don't even think it's the same product. Pepe's is apizza. Colony is a blistering disc of acid sauce covered in oil.

I'm not reading 16 pages to find out if this has been mentioned, but for a different feel than NYC/New Haven style, I really like Luna Pizza (West Hart/Simsbury). It's got a nice light sauce, tasty cheese, and beautifully crispy crust. You have to dine in though or it becomes soggy.

I've just discovered a place called Ray's on Route 156 in Niantic. Try it out, you won't be disappointed.

In Bristol CT - try San Gennaro in Forestville Center and Chunky Tomato on Route 6.

Bristol has a ton of pizza places but they are all pretenders compared to these.

We actually have people talking about best pizza and they aren't referring to New Haven? Crazy talk.

Definitely not trying to rain on your parade, but it won't be as good as the New Haven place, if previous form holds. Manchester Pepe's < New Haven Pepe's imo. Could be in my imagination of course.

That said, you won't find anything better around there, so you'll be loving that. And you don't have to drive. So yes, it's a win.
I agree with you. The Pepe's in Manchester is not nearly as good as New Haven. But it's still way better than anything up here.

I moved from Rome (Italy, not NY) to Westport, CT and I did not puke when I ate the pizza at Westport Pizzeria. ;)

It's worth a try - they recently moved to the Post Rd. from their location on Main St. where they had been for 45 years.

So sad to see them move - that was one of our main hangouts when I went to Staples HS. That street changed a lot over the years - when I first moved there they had an old style barber shop, a pharmacy, a coffee shop and a gas station. Now they have J Crew, Gap, Banana Republic, Nike Store and Pottery Barn. I think there's a Tiffany's there too now.

BINGO……..come to WesMass and try our pizza where Red Rose in Springfield is king and doesn't hold a candle to some of the CT local pizza parlors never mind Modern, Sally's or Pepe's……….actually you can hardly call it pizza………lol

Has anyone been to BAR in New Haven? I'm too lazy to filter thru 17 pages of pizza comments...
Bar is excellent. It is a little off course from the traditional New Haven Pie, but is really good. Some creative offerings. I really like the Mashed potato and bacon pizza.

Bingo. Just logged on to say the same. It's right there with the holy trinity (Pepe's, Sally's, Modern) imo. Second on the mashed potato/bacon pie (they will recommend white, but get it red, trust me). Their salad is also very good, as are all their traditional and other pizza offerings. Just be warned that it is probably the thinnest crust you've ever had and it doesn't last or travel well. It cools really fast. Also, their house beers tend to be average at best imo (except for the aptly-named Damn Good Stout), so stick to the guest beers otherwise if you are a fan of micros/craft beers. He usually has a pretty nice selection.

Last time I was there a few months ago the pizza was off a bit but I'm assuming they just had an off night. The challenge with Bar is getting out of there early enough if you have kids with you because the club crowd comes in quick and then the fun starts. Prob best to be out by then. My sad reality is that I have to get out early with the kids when Bar used to be one of my favorite trolling grounds when I was single.... I hate getting old!

My contribution to this list is Joey Garlics on the Berlin tnpke in Newington, but ONE pizza in particular.... Order the "clams casino" pizza without the clams! If you like bacon, it's off the chain!!!!! BTW, don't think you can go to the one in Farmington or the spinoff in Simsbury and have the same pie because they are NOT as good as Newington! In fact, ordering that pie at these locations isn't even close!
Your welcome!

I went to the Joe Pizza one in Simsbury and it was excellent pie. I didn't have any exotics like you, but the pie was really really good. Very underrated.

Try their eggplant fries if you haven't already. They're one of the greatest pleasures one can have with their pants on.
