Now that much of the nation is rivited on watching the Masters Golf Tournament, permit a few comments about this unique event.

It is held at the Augusta National Country Club. Note the word "national," that signifies that membership is nationwide. If, say, a member in Oregon dies, the club will seek a replacement for him from somewhere in the northwest. Contiguous to the Augusta National CC is the Augusta Country Club, a fine course and a club whose membership is strictly regional.

Since the tournament is played every year at the same site, the bleachers and the relief facilities are permanently constructed and are far better for fans than port-a-potties and temporary bleachers.

A lot of fuss is made about the green jackets. When someone wins the tournament, they are presented with the distinctive green jacket and made an honorary member of the Augusta National CC. But they don't get to keep the jacket; it's like the Stanley Cup, you keep it for a year then you've got to give it back, and it is stored at the club for your use only when you're on the grounds.

All Augusta National CC members have a green jacket, but it is stored at the club and worn only on the grounds. Don't wait to see Tiger or Jack or Arnie showing up at your local pub in their distinctive green jackets.

Mrs. Kibitzer and I have been to the Masters three times. As some of you know, we have beautiful autographed photos of Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus (ask TonyC!). These are great reminders of what I and millions of others consider the greatest golf game of all.
