Went to that game and sat with the wealthiest UConn donors in the Alumni box. My cousin, who worked for the Tigers at the time, was head of the Detroit-area UConn Alumni Association and our family just tailed along for all the festivities. They bought $80 steaks for my 10 year-old's dinner without blinking. Great time, great event.
It was also the time I learned the deepest inside information on Geno and Jim. Notably the story that Geno went to UMass and wanted their men's basketball job. The only caveat: there would be no other people interviewed. It almost happened. And I learned many of the details around Calhoun's long-time interest in South Carolina basketball.
