The founder, CEO and president of FedEx, Frederic Smith, grew up in Memphis. (He went to Yale.)

If he wants FedEx to sponsor Memphis athletics or Joe Gibbs' NASCAR program, FedEx will do that. That's the way it works.

Plus, he's worth about $4B.

Only 4B? He could never get a date with Sue Ann Hamm!

@Weeeeeh There isn't a single reason why the Big 12 would expand & dozens of reasons why it would harm the conference.

Christopher Lambert @theDudeofWV · 2h 2 hours ago
@Weeeeeh The bottom line is the B12 doesn't want 12 or a CCG. They certainly don't want revenues reduced.

Christopher Lambert @theDudeofWV · 2h 2 hours ago
@Weeeeeh No disrespect to Cincy or Memphis but neither have the football cachet the B12 would require. Neither bring ratings.

Christopher Lambert @theDudeofWV · 1h 1 hour ago
@Weeeeeh they are watching the SEC not Memphis. Another reason why the B12 wouldn't add them.

Christopher Lambert @theDudeofWV · 1h 1 hour ago
@Weeeeeh just for fun look up the TV ratings for Cincy & Memphis.

Christopher Lambert @theDudeofWV · 1h 1 hour ago
For those who think the other P5 conf will force to the Big 12 to expand consider that the B12, ACC & SEC are in cahoots to change rules.

Christopher Lambert @theDudeofWV · 54m 54 minutes ago
@Weeeeeh The B12 needs NATIONAL TV ratings not regional.

Christopher Lambert @theDudeofWV · 51m 51 minutes ago
@Weeeeeh Memphis has lost $19.1 million on athletics.

Christopher Lambert @theDudeofWV · 49m 49 minutes ago
@Weeeeeh All SEC states. Memphis football doesn't move the national needle one bit.

Christopher Lambert @theDudeofWV · 47m 47 minutes ago
@Weeeeeh Bowlsby & Luck & a host of others are on record. The B12 loses money on expansion & they don't need 12 for a CCG.

Bet your life on two big changes for next year. Big 12 will have 12 teams and the CFB playoff committee is done with weekly rankings.

Welcome to the Big 12 UCF and Cincinnati!

Baylor AD Ian McCaw said last night the discussion on Big 12 conference title game should resume Monday. No doubt now.

Jeff Long, Chairman of cfb playoff committee, made it obvious that the lack of a Big 12 conference championship game hurt the Big 12.

Tuxedo Yoda @TuxedoYoda · 5h 5 hours ago
We all knew the lack of a Big 12 title game was a problem. You'd think the Big 12 ADs would be smarter than the fans, they're not.

Also, I've been told before that Big 12 would look east, not west, for expansion. Maybe find a travel partner for West Virginia.

I certainly understand the frustration felt at TCU & Baylor. However, the Co-Champ circumstances did them in. The Committee got it right!

Bob Bowlsby: "It’s clear we were penalized for not having postseason game. It would have been nice to been told that beforehand"

If Warde Manuel and President Herbst both aren't working the phones 24/7 with every single B12 President and Commissioner Bowlsby, they should resign immediately. This may be the only P5 door opening in the next 5-10 years.

The SEC/Big 10/Pac12 will not allow Big 12 to play a conference championship game with only 10 teams. No incentive

Greg Flugaur @flugempire · 1h 1 hour ago
If I was the Big 12 I would expand and take UCF and thier big alumni and market. 12 school is completly up in the air IMO

Greg Flugaur @flugempire · 1h 1 hour ago
I understand the schools of the Big 12 will take a hit$.....but the best way to turn a loss into long term gain-plant flag in Orlando

Greg Flugaur @flugempire · 1h 1 hour ago
Big 12 should tell FOX....if you want in on Florida its time to strike and gives a little lift of $ to cushion the impact....

Why not UCF and us? They need to get to 12 teams and we help them do that. If that's the football requirement the bar is low. Do they really need good football teams? We bring more conference value than any other school in the ACC. Plus we will gladly take less than full share and will play home games at MetLife, MSG and Barclays.

Burn it down or build it up Big 12. Sitting around counting your cash while TCU gets screwed over isn't a good look

this is easy. Expand lose $5 million per year. P5 legislation pending which drops 12 team requirement.

I do. U are saying b12 teams sacrifice long term stability for the upfront extra $5mil per year

No. Any two teams would have been enough. If UConn and Eastern Michigan were already in the Big XII TCU could have played Baylor last night in a conference championship game. There is a good chance that the winner of that game would have gotten the playoff nod over Ohio St.

We bring very little to the Big XII. But sometimes, the value of an acquisition is in denying it to your competitor. UConn to the XII -- joining WVU, which has fans in metro DC -- takes the NOrtheast, which the ACC and Big Ten are fighting over, denies either of them a clear victory and, with no conference taking over (remembering that no dominant football conference keeps the Big EAst, and to a lesser degree the A Ten relevant in hoops), gets the XII's toes in the water. Texas and Oklahoma can then play the occasional football game in Fedex or Metlife, and hoops in the Verizon and Barclays.

That is what the pitch ought to be. And if the XII listens, it forces the Big Ten and ACC to think about being proactive.

The pitch should already have been made. If we haven't learned to be proactive by now J really question what Warde does with his time. Every P5 should know our pitch inside and out by now.

I feel the same way. Not necessarily that we'd go to the Big 12 but if there's enough rumblings it will force the B1G or ACC's hand maybe?

Make any and every concession to the Big12.

Once were in, were in.

No. You make temporary concessions but not permanent ones. UConn will be in a major conference sooner or later. You don't permanently impair yourself, and no conference that asked a university to do that would be a worthwhile partner.

You take the first life raft you get. You know its bad when the best bowl in the American Conference pits you against ACC #5 and when P5 conferences bowl payouts (each bowl...look it up...the Liberty bowl pays $2.4 mil per team) exceed your conference revenue payout for the year. WVU took the right approach and as much as they complain about being on an island, its 1000x better than being in the AAC(k).
