Team is young? 17 of 22 non specialist starters are upperclassmen. One of the 5 underclassman is the fullback.

Davis is a senior btw Courant.

That's gotta be a mistake. No Ron Johnson either.

Even better is DeLorenzo is the starter? The guy who got his first touch in the last game 5 yards deep in their own end zone... in the third quarter.

Years ago, when UConn had its Louisiana connection, they had a kid named Raymond James (no, not that Raymond James) who was an incredible get for them. A national level sprinter, crazy total yards and TDs in high school, a punter, a place kicker, the second coming of Jim Thorpe. Expect he fumbled a few times in his first two games and then hardly saw the field except for special plays designed for his speed (he was lightning fast). I was one of those who thought he should have given more of a chance. When kids like that and Newsome come along who have ridiculous hs totals, chances are that they have a ton of long runs, tackled less than other kids, and are rarely hit clean. College is a whole different thing and I would let a kid like that adjust to the new reality. When he fumbled early, (against Boise?) I thought it was more on the (lack of) blocking because he was hit an instant after he was handed or pitched the ball. He is the game breaker from what I see among our backs.

It's a mistake. BD said in the presser that the rotation would stay the same.

Definitely not hurt though...listed as KR

With 25/44 on the two deep are sophomores or younger, that is a very young team. And, only 8 starters are seniors. Plus, there are 5 true freshmen on the two deep not including Newsome and Johnson. UConn has never played many if any true freshmen on the 2 deep in the past. Don't forget most of the specialists are freshmen and sophomores.

RB's can't fumble twice a game or even twice a month if they want to stay on the field. Kid needs to work on it.
Yup. If you want ball protection then there has to be a consequence that drives home the point. When he earns his way back on the field, it will be first and foremost on his mind.

Now UConn is making mistakes in their own two deep based on what I read here.

Newsome has to learn what Tiki Barber learned while he played for the NY Giants. Hold the ball close and tight.
I have faith he will get it right.

If your job is to carry the pig, you squeeze it. Simple. If you don't, you don't get to carry it again until you earn it back. Newsome helps this team the most returning kicks. Taking the hits there will help him with ball security. This lineup actually makes sense. Is it possible we've finally settled on a lineup of starters? Contrary to all common sense, I have a good feeling about tonight. If we play our best assignment specific football on both sides, catch and return kicks and stay even at least or manage plus side on the turnovers, sky is the limit. ECU, as much as they have tried I'm sure will not come out on that field expecting any kind of test from us. It's an advantage.

I just want to see this team compete in all phases to win. I can only hope that Diaco was playing the media game by saying we aren't actually game planning specific to ECU over the past week and a half.

Physical mistakes happen. Diaco has to stop worrying about TOs and start worrying about how to score points.

He has fumbled 3x at or inside the opponents 30. Twice at Tulane. Cant be blowing the few scoring opportunities we do get.

He has also been a big part of getting the team down there. He should have been redshirted. He has a ton of natural ability that you can see clearly, but those two fumbles against Tulane he was just rag dolled on. Just not 100% ready for the physical nature of D1 college football down after down.

In fairness to Newsome did anyone else think he was down and/or the Tulane defender recovered that ball out of bounds?

And I'm still not putting the Boise fumble on him.

Yes, he was/is. I think one fumble, the defender just pulled it out of his grasp going down too. I dont know if he two armed it.

Saw that. If hes there just to plug the middle, not a big deal. If he is able to get penetration... VERY big deal!!
