    John Altavilla @jaltavilla
Geno heading to Atlanta Wednesday to see #DiamondDeShields #UConnwomen

And Geno on comparing the margin of victory in ND v Pitt and UConn v Pitt. Hmmm....

    John Altavilla @jaltavilla
Geno took a second to say it could have been worse than a 49-point win, but #UConnwomen didn't press it.

    John Altavilla @jaltavilla
Geno: "“I mean, we could have come out here and put 120 on them like Notre Dame did [a 120-44 win on Jan. 17 in South Bend]. #UConnwomen

    John Altavilla @jaltavilla
Geno: "We could had shot threes the whole game and tried to run the score up. But that’s not the point." UConnwomen

First, good luck with DeShields I hope she goes to UConn.

What is GA's obsession with ND? ND's starters played less then UConn's did. ND's bench players who never see the court played twice as many minutes as UConn's players. ND shot exactly 2 more 3's than UConn. As far as the press, it was ND's bench learning how to play the way ND plays. ND had 14 steals compared to UConn's 13. The difference is ND's starters only had 5, while UConn's had 10. So who was trying to take advantage of whom? These games were also at different times of the year where you work on different scenarios. He goes out of his way to portray a negative perception of ND and McGraw that isn't even based on fact. He looked at the score and decided he knew what happened.

Not in person -- can't talk to her.

We're in an Evaluation Period through Feb. 29. That means it's OK to observe her games, talk to coaches, but no in-person meetings with a prospect or her family except on UConn campus.

Can always telephone during this period though, from here or from down there.

Leave it to me to look for loopholes. What if they talk to each other on cell phones from across the gym?

How close is in person? Is it if you're close enough to hear each other without the phones even while you're talking on them? Is it if you can see each other?

You can always see each other on evaluation visits to games. Does that permissible thing become bad if you add another permissible thing by simultaneously talking on the phone?

Why do I think like this? Somebody help me . . .

Next Contact Period runs Mar. 1-Mar. 29.

It may all have been sarcasm aimed at those who were upset by the ND score, too. I doubt Geno is hammering on Muffet in any negative way given they are chums.

Maybe he's working the Tournament Committee? Don't know but I do know he's not saying anything bad about Muffet McGraw. She's been one of his best friends, one of the Philly gang, for close to 30 years.

Let's not stretch any rules. We have too much good going for us to risk anything like ineligibility for the big parties.

Ah, maybe Geno did take a poke at his good friend Muffet after talking to Agnus Berenato (below quote from the Pitt Post-Gazette article in today's Newslinks):

Pitt coach Agnus Berenato said that she owed Auriemma a "thank-you note."

She said Auriemma is a class act and an educator first, and that was the difference because the Panthers only were outscored, 38-27, in the second half. It enabled Berenato to teach her team -- which has no juniors or seniors -- some things and work on specific situations.

"The Notre Dame game was someone's opportunity to show what embarrassing another team was all about and it served absolutely no purpose for us," Berenato said. "[Wednesday's] game served a purpose. We were able to work on some things and we were able to have some success and those are some teaching moments for us as educators."

Wow!!! Maybe since she's headed to the ACC, Agnes doesn't need to sugarcoat her opinion. That was pretty blunt.

ND football and all sports are basically hated like the Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys. They are a franchise folks love to hate.
