Will be ready for this fall.

$18.5 million, state-of the-art soccer stadium features seating capacity for more than 5,300 and includes a 15,500-square-foot training center.

And the best part:
"Upon gaining admission, fans will be greeted by the main concession stand that features up to 14 queues or they can stroll around the concourse that extends around the end lines and includes room for additional concession stands." (Uconn has one concession line, unless you're a donor and you get the free food under the tent.)

I am jealous that the Cards are getting a new stadium as UConn, an established soccer power, really needs a new stadium, too.

That said, I do have questions. 5,300 is large for a college soccer stadium. Only UCSB averages above 5K a game as of 2012 and the second place team, UConn, just gets 4,200. Louisville had an average of 2,200. So, this would be a 150% increase. In turn, the new stadium cost $18.5 million, $5 million came from one donor. If Louisville needs attendance dollars to pay off the bonds, that could be risky and Louisville is likely looking at a legal mess with the current bonds from the Yum Center, which are close to defaulting.

UConn JUST gets 4,200? Morrone is currently listed as seating about 5,100, and they usually sell out a some games every year. If they had a bigger stadium, they would certainly have a higher average. I expect that when they build the new soccer facility, it will seat more than 6,000.

According to the description, more than 2,000 of those "seats" are on grass berms (see graphic showing fans sitting beyond opposite touch line).

even if ground-breaking is a few years away, i'd love to see the design/layout for the new soccer stadium. i hope we have similar seating configuration as current stadium (5-7 rows deep away side of field (end line to endline) 15-20 rows deep home side of field (endline to endline.) i would like to see seating behind both goals (5-7 rows deep.)
