We're 28th on that list, if I counted correctly. With 21 championships.

Too bad there isn't a list of major sport NCAA championships, or at least ones where there's national participation. There's a few schools there that are very misleading. 22 of Denver's championships are in skiing. 13 schools nationwide have D1 skiing programs. Others are inflated by old tennis, water polo, track and field, etc. championships. Of course, for the purposes of realignment, these sports are 100% meaningless.

It's great UConn women do so well in BB.

But we have to be honest..........as Joe D. has said more than once .....close to 300 colleges play division I women's BB......."maybe 20" give a rat's a__.

If you don't count the women's well deserved championships......the UConn perspective is different

You should teach a masters level class on backhanded compliments.

So do we need a list with just men's sports? Maybe just basketball and football. Hockey & wrestling? You can look at UCLA and be super impressed, but when you look at just men's football and basketball they're down to 12 (I think it's 11 hoops 1 football) and only one from 1976 on. I think the perspective of UConn would still be impressive when you consider that all 21 their titles have been from 1981 to current and that all 4 of the men's basketball have been in the last 16 years. They are a school that is currently getting it done, not living on past accomplishments.
UTEP has 21, but 20 are in track.
Oklahoma has 22, with 7 in football but only 2 in the last 30 years. Check out men's gymnastics and men's wrestling for most of the total.
Bottom line, I think every school could have some kind of asterisk on it that makes the number less impressive. The key is framing your story correctly. Given most of ours are in the "what have you done for me lately" theme, I know what I'd say.

First, you can smother your own self with your wet blanket.

Second, I guarantee you that almost all of the championships on that list are in something people care even less about than women's basketball. For example, note that sixteen of West Virginia's eighteen titles are in "Rifle".

But you didn't think that hard, did you? Simpleton.

The problem is, CR has nothing to do with on-field/court results. It only has to do with $$$.

Yeah I wish those numbers meant something, but really everything is secondary when compared to major principles of CR. UConn gets hosed, and football drives the bus.

WCBB is content and content is needed if you have your own network. The "watchable" stuff is going to be on ESPN or network TV. UCWBB isn't getting us in any conference as a stand alone, but it has value as significant part of our athletic department. I'm sure some conferences (B1G) understand it has value and have quantified it.

BCU is not on the list - that makes the list great.

What womens sport is more contested and/or higher profile than basketball? Even if you limit it to mens sports, UConn still makes this list. Let's be honest, many of the championships on this list are for lightly contested sports. If one was to limit the list to championships earned over the past 50 years, UConn moves up the list. And if it's limited further to include only revenue sports, it looks even better for UConn.

Sorry, but I changed Wikipedia back to show 20 UConn championships. That page is for Ncaa championships and the Men's 1948 Soccer championship is not Ncaa.
