No reasonable person can possibly say NC State deserves a bid over SMU, I just compared both of their resumes and it's just a joke. It's no coincidence that the committee is chaired by Wake Forest's AD and NC State gets in while SMU doesn't. The committee also clearly didn't want Wichita as a #1 seed but knew they had to make them one so instead they give them the most brutal path possible to the final 4. I really get bummed out with how dirty the NCAA is.

final impressions matter though, the committee saw NC State beat Syracuse and they saw SMU lose to Houston. It's not fair, but all SMU had to do was beat Houston.

N.C. State wasn't even one of the last four out in Lunardi's final bracket. Them making it is really shady.

Two ACC members along with the former Duke AD on the committee of ten. SMU had no chance. They picked NC State to add revenue to the ACC coffers.

I don't know why so many are focusing on NC St v. SMU. SMU may or may not have deserved it, but check out BYU. Look at their losses. There are worse at larges than NC St in the tourney.

And whether it should be accounted for or not they also lost their 2nd leading scorer and arguably their glue guy in Collinsworth

If it wasn't Houston ... the Ron Wellman's of the world would find a different reason. This is never fair. And, as time goes on, the business ethics of North Carolina's finest are never in question. They just suck.

The committee pretty much did a one game eye test and went with NC State. So much for overall body of work. SMU got royally screwed over, and I actually think they're good enough to win a game or two.

There weren't 2 ACC members on the committee, but there were no AAC members:

ACC AD, SEC AD, Big 12 AD, Big 10 AD, Big East AD, CUSA ass. commissioner, West Coast Conf Commish, Big Sky Commish, MWC AD, CAA AD.

Many of these people have reason to dislike the AAC, especially ACC, CUSA, BE, and MWC.

More interesting to me would be which members were the primary and secondary evaluators of the AAC. I know the Creighton AD was one, but who else?

The inconsistencies in the selection process are appalling. Katz was drilling Wellman on the Virginia/Louisville thing and he basically had nothing to say. N.C. State was 1-7 vs. the top 25, 3-9 vs. the top 50, and 6-10 against the top 100. Apparently the committee was impressed by their ability to beat mediocre ACC teams on the road.

That was really incredible. The argument he made for Virginia worked for Louisville just the same, if not more so. When Katz pointed that out, and the fact that Louisville ended up as a four seed, Wellman's response was that it was really hard to pick that fourth number one seed, and that Villanova and Michigan were both very close to it--but he never addressed why Louisville wasn't!

I missed it, what was the argument b/w Virginia & Louisville?

Because BYU is better than NC State.

You think?

How could they lose to Loyola, Pepperdine, Portland St. and Pacific if they're better? That doesn't scream "good enough" to me. They had 3 good wins in the top 50 against Stanford, Texas and Gonzaga, but 4 bad losses after the top 125 is a big black mark.

http://www.bracketmatrix.com/ shows how insane this was.

SMU, even with their iffy profile (RPI of 53, SOS 114, NC SOS of 295), was on 96 of the 112 brackets in their survey.

NC State? (55,33,107), was on..............................3. Three out of 112.

UConn was a 7-seed on 5 brackets of 112. Every other one had us higher. And no I'm not complaining about our draw.

The bad losses killed SMU. Three losses to RPI teams worse than 140. South Florida at 227 was a train wreck.

NC State's worst loss was to 78 Clemson.

Wellman laid out the case for Virginia as a one seed, saying that although they struggled OOC, they won the ACC regular season and tournament championship. Then Katz responds, "But you could say the same for Louisville", and Wellman sort of looked for the nearest escape route from the conversation. The video Buhusky posted should have it.
