I hate the Aussie Headline saying she was sacked.
By the way, its my understanding that the Aussies have two imports allowed per team. The imports are paid and just a few of the Aussie players, generally the stars.
Many of the players on the teams do not get paid. I spoke to a US players parents who said most of the girls work other jobs, or are in school. She told me the practice for her daughters team are held at night so the girls can work their day jobs. Budgets are tight and most teams only travel with 10 players plus two coaches. The home team can dress 12.

I wish the best for Kelly.

Her team was 2-11. Is that more losses than her entire UConn career? ( And high school combined?)

"Faris was averaging 3.8 points at 33 per cent, 3.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists — well below expectations"

I also wonder about her future with the Sun.

:( but I am not worried about Kelly. Smart girl with an insanely high work ethic. I would love to see UConn add another Director of Basketball Operations :)

Honestly I don't think she'll make the team this coming season. Her offense just isn't there. I was hoping the Australian stint would help her in that respect but obviously it didn't. :(

I was hoping she would stay home this winter and enjoy her family and continue to work on the her game. Maybe she will do that now.

I'm also concerned about her place with the Sun. The Sun will be getting two high draft picks in 2015. It's possible her low salary and defense will keep her on the team. Coaching may be in Kelly's future.

I always hoped that she would forgo the professional game altogether and pursue an alternative career. She was the quintessential college player, never a true candidate at the next level. The same work ethic that elevated her college game beyond her natural abilities will stand her in good stead in whatever endeavor she wishes to pursue...I hope she returns to school and works toward a professional degree. Who wouldn't trust his or her life to Kelly Faris, M.D.?

Come on people let us face reality. KF was made by Uconn and she should move on with her life outside bb. Her Australian team is hardly top and she should be dominating in all categories. I like the woman but ....

In Australia the imports are paid, in some cases its nice$. With the money being spent and tight budgets you almost have to be a big stats producer, i.e. Scoring and Rebounds. Although KF is a player I always want on my team, to pay her and not pay a lot of others, who shows similar stats, doesnt make sense.
Often the stats dont show everything, setting great screens, boxing out, forcing turnovers, leadership, making great passes that dont result in a basket, etc. However, some people don't, or cant, justify making payments to players for those things.

Come on, person. UConn opened the door but Kelly made herself. And not a few folks on this board and within the WNBA thought she had a future in professional basketball. Many folks you can't name are making their profession within bball. I guess you like the woman, but I'm not sure your the expert on her skills or life choices...

Sounds to me like she was a scapegoat for other problems on that team (probably the coach, GM for starters). She's better off without 'em.

The Sun just needs to utilize her more effectively next season.

For Kelly , its all about being in the right situation.......A situation that places her where her skillset is important and can be utilized to the fullest. She is not a scorer or high percentage shooter , or rebounder. She is an intangibles players. A scrapper ; a little defense ; a hustler ; a key basket here and there ; a key steal here , and key rebound there. Until she lands on a team that needs those type intangibles she will bounce around.

Her being released by the Australian team probably had nothing to do with the skillset she has as much as it had to do with what she does not have..........High scoring ability.

She will find her perfect team because she is a team player who hustles.

HGN- - - RIGHT ON! Geno always said when Kelly graduated he hoped whoever picked her in the WNBA would use her for her talents and not put her in situations that are not her skillset, she's not going to average 20 pts. & 12 RB's a game ! A really good team like a PHX, that can afford to put her in for defense, certain types of offense, etc.
Obviously, the CT SUN with Anne (I have no clue) Donovan is not that situation!
When she does give up playing she will become a great coach who will impart her values/heart on the young women who are lucky enough to be coached by KF!

I would not like to take you on re: KF,; however, college ball is not like the Pro game. Most WNBA teams are crying over money problems and are carrying fewer players then they have need for. As a consequence, there are often good to average players who do not have a job. In past years a top team vying for a championship would sign up a KF for a year, this is not the case today. They may carry an extra big body to clogg things up but even that is questionable. Even a 3-point specialist who cannot create her own shots is a luxury today. It might come as a surprise to you but players trained outside the U.S. are often good shooters (regardless of size) and the know defense. While her technical knowledge might be sound, she will be expected to add substantially to the scoring especially for a 3rd rung team. It i not by chance that she ended up there and not in the European league. And if not with the CT Sun where would you send her as a instant contributor? That type of 'journeywo/man' player might be a thing of the past- however unfortunate for the game. Whether she should 'move on with her life' should not have come from me- it was certainly arrogant. One of the most diff thing for us all is knowing when to stop: we sometime do so too quickly or too late. I enjoyed her at Conn and had hope the best for her thereafter, even with some doubts about how her game would translate beyond Uconn.

She wants to play while she's still young and in shape. Nothing wrong with that. More power to her.

Kelly is a winner, team player and a fierce competitor, who can boost any WNBA team. In believe Auriemma knows that, which is why he started her every game. In my opinion, Anne Donovan prejudged her, and did not know how to utilize her strengths. She's never gotten an opportunity and the respect--consistent playing time--to help a team jell. I know the Liberty could use her. I hope her self-confidence has not been damaged and she doesn't give up.
