This is where Maya and the others who opt for China I think have an advantage over the European WNBA players. The Chinese season is shorter with fewer separate competitions and without the length of post season tournaments. Maya gets close to two months off every spring while the players on the good European teams end up having maybe a week or two off before WNBA training camp, and at the end of the WNBA season if they go far in the playoffs they are missing the start for their European teams. Some players have done the 'not getting to Europe until after Christmas' break, some have had enforced breaks due to injury, but mostly it really is 12 months a year.
As the article says - at 22 that may be possible, at 32 that is insane! I think Maya and the other Chinese stars will be in better shape physically because they do get those mini-breaks.
