"Trio of schools in early on Gak

Jerry Meyer - Mar 3, 11:26 PM
2016 post player Gorjak Gak was a definite eye catcher at last weekend's Hoop Exchange Player Showdown in Orlando, Florida. He also has the attention of a trio of schools.

Gak, 6-10, 205-pounds out of Bradenton (Fla.) Victory Rock Prep, told 247Sports that he is hearing from Cincinnati, Tennessee and West Virginia.

Now ranked No. 174 in the 247Sports Composite, Gak is a raw prospect a year removed from Australia. Nonetheless, he has promising potential with his length, mobility and developing skill set."

Wile I would relish the announcer calling a drive to the hoop a GAK ATTACK!, the kid doesn't sound excited enough about Ollie calling him. Move on.

The kid just got an offer from us and has most likely barely talked to Ollie. Ollie's best characteristic in recruiting is his way to build a relationship over time. Just because he didn't start jumpimg up and down and balling his eyes out at our offer doesn't mean we automatically say next. Cmon man

Assuming we'll be taking 2 bigs in the '16 class and given that we already have Diarra in the fold, I would rather have W. Gabriel than this guy. His versatility seems like it would fit better with the group of bigs we'll have.

Article says he's concentrating on 3 type skills.

Gorjan Gak – 2016 – C – Bradenton, Florida
At 6-11 the young big was impressive in his ability to make things happen in different ways. Still figuring things out skill wise, Gak has size and length and he can rebound, block shots, and finish around the basket and in transition with his size and athleticism. A raw talent, Gak’s best year’s lie ahead and he opened some eyes in a positive way on Wednesday.

Fairly interesting highlight reel. Couple of notes
  • Not an "explosive" leaper, but goes straight up
  • Quick second jump, which is great for rebounding out-of-area (and translates well to college)
  • Seems to have better hands and body control around the rim than Brimah at the same age
  • Finished through contact a couple of times
  • He's skinny, but not a Brimah-esque twig person
  • All dunks and lay-ups; not a single jumper or foul shot
Clearly he's a D1 athlete, and would make a ton of sense for us given our roster make-up.

Tying into your body control comment, he also had the poise, situational awareness and coordination to take a quick dribble and move sideways to avoid the defense to finish cleanly under hoop...not a common ability in a player of his age!
