Priceless! "He should just write a check and shut up. Really. And just contribute. I'm tired of hearing about it. If he wants to give the government more money, he's got the ability to write a check. Go ahead and write it," Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) said to CNN's Piers Morgan. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/vi...he_should_just_write_a_check_and_shut_up.html
This is (yet) another example of the media shilling for the left... have you seen any mention, any question given to Obama or Buffet... about the tax case he's fighting? Report: Buffett's Berkshire Owes $1 Billion In Back Taxes ...."Warren Buffett is no different from the other liars and frauds orbiting Barack Obama. His hypocrisy just runs billions of dollars deeper. When it comes to 'shared sacrifice,' you do the sacrificing, and they do the sharing," Hayward writes.
Note well: Warren Buffett has structured his business life to scrupulosly avoid taxation (As IMHO he SHOULD). He has also arranged his AFTER-LIFE to avoid taxation (i.e. confiscatory estate taxation). He has given all his money to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Obviously, he thinks Bill will be a better shepard of his estate than the Federal Government would be. (In effect, he will direct his resources from the grave). Yes, he should just shut up about taxes, fairness and all the rest of his sanctimony.
Assuming you're commenting on my post: That's exactly the point: Buffet (and his business) avoids "ordinary" tax treatment by making money as captital gains. As for personal: virtually his entire estate has been pledged to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation - thus no 55% Estate Tax - BTW: I'm not complaining or suggesting he should do otherwise (Had I the means, I'd do the same kind of thing - assuring the bulk of my estate be "spent" in a responsible manner - rather than down the maw of the Federal Government. My complaint is with the sanctimony.
Anyone see Jack Welch's response to a similar question today. “If we thought it would go to deficit reduction and not more silly programs, maybe that would be a good argument,” said the wealthy businessman. Read more: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0212/73159.html#ixzz1n9PPZC00
Given his size, probably not a good idea to mention Christie and Buffet in the same sentence. (think about it.)
Good for Christie as most Americans are tired of Buffet stating the same thing daily. If he wants to pay more, then he should. Otherwise just the heck up.
I've been saying the same thing for some time. Nobodies stopping him from paying the government more. Pretty sure they would accept it. One of those put your money where your mouth is things.
There is a level of ignorance on the Right that gives me serious concern as an American. A fairer tax system will result in increased innovation and economic growth. A tax system that promotes a permanent class structure, as you and Replicant prefer, will stop innovation and shrink the economy. I do not get the Right's love with a theocratic, feudal class structure for our society. Western civilization tried this before, it was called the Dark Ages, it lasted 1,000 years and civilization went backwards. Those aren't the "good old days". The West should have been conquered about half a dozen times during this stretch, but the various threats: Vikings, Mongols, Turks, Moors; luckily would self-destruct on the verge of victory. In modern times, the Right's economic philosophy has failed repeatedly, usually with catastrophic results. It doesn't work.
WOW! That's quite an evolved prism you're seeing things through. In America we have an economic and political system which is based on some very simple principals. Even though it doesn't work perfectly (We're not a dictatorship - YET), it is the envy of the world and miles ahead of whtever's in second place.
I agree, a fairer tax system is needed and would "result in increased innovation and economic growth". There are a variety of tax plans that would work and my personal preference would be a flat tax. I'd like to see 12% across the board on personal income, cap gains and corporate. As to your 2nd inference above, the tax system (progressive) we currently have is in fact what is causing "a permanent class structure". I'd enjoy hearing what tax structure you believe that JG and I favor that would "stop innovation and shrink the economy". You made the accusation, but offered nothing specific?
Liberals NEVER offer specifics. FACTS is a four letter word to progressives. Or, they provide their alternate universe, Bizarro world, facts...
