Good to see Colletti get three scoreless innings of pitching in. I'm thinking he will end up starting one of the midweek games, probably Wednesday, with Zapata going on Tuesday. It sounds like Radue might come in for the ninth. Good to see the little used pitchers get some work.

Sounds like Aaron Hill just had an inside the park single, so to speak.

Final score: #UConn 17, La Salle 1. Huskies pound out 17 hits and win their third straight to move to 7-8 on the year. #BleedBlue

Stats

Game Notes:
- UConn scored nine runs in the second inning, the most in an inning this season. The big inning comes a day after the Huskies scored eight in the eighth inning yesterday, the previous single-inning best.
- The Huskies scored double-digit runs for the third time this season, and second time in as many days. UConn posted season-highs with 17 runs and 17 hits in the win.
- Eric Yavarone recorded his seventh multi-hit game of the season, most on UConn.
- Bobby Melley and Connor David both homered in the win, the first time this season UConn has posted multiple long balls in a game. The Huskies have home runs in three straight games, all wins.
- Vinny Siena was not in the lineup for the first time this year, snapping a streak of 77 consecutive starts to open the sophomore’s career.

Up next, UConn concludes its time at the Big 5 Baseball Bash when it travels to Villanova. First pitch against the Wildcats is set for 1:15 p.m. on Sunday, and senior Brian Ward (Milford, Conn.) will take the ball for the Huskies.

UConn scores five runs in the second inning through a combination of some nice hitting from UConn and shoddy fielding by Villanova.

6-0 lead and now Ward can't find the strike zone. 3 walks in the 3rd and bases are loaded and now 6-2. What is up with our senior pitchers inability to throw strikes. Both Marzi and Ward walk way to many batters.

Ward's control problems has him out of the game in the third, with Anthony Kay coming in. Despite having some control problems, Marzi has had a terrific career at UConn. He is certainly not in the same situation as Ward. Injuries, wildness, and sheer ineffectiveness have lead to Ward losing his weekend spot in the rotation in previous seasons. With Zapata and Kay around, it could very easily happen to him again. The score is now 6-5 UConn after three innings.

7-5 in top of the 5th with 1st and 2nd and David gets picked off first. Someone explain that one to me. This team's ability to kill themselves on the base paths is unbelievable.

UConn wins 7-6. Kudos to the bullpen trio of Kay, Ruotolo, and Mahoney for bringing in this win.

- UConn is now 37-24 all-time against Villanova.
- David Mahoney recorded the first save for a UConn pitcher this year.
- The Huskies won their three games at the Big 5 Baseball Bash by a combined score of 33-8.
- Bobby Melley was 7-for-12 with six runs scored and four RBIs in the tournament.
- Aaron Hill is 8-for-16 with six runs scored, four RBIs and a stolen base during UConn's four-game win streak.

Up next, UConn travels to Florida for the start of a five-game stretch in the Sunshine State, including the start of American Athletic Conference play.
