    Tara Vanderveer Retires (merged)

During her press conference, she also gave a shoutout to Auriemma for being one of the many coaches of her generation who she looked up to and appreciated (she also name checked Summit, Ceal Barry and Jody Conradt, among others). Kiki Irifiafen had asked her what her favorite "Tara-ism" was...

    Tara Vanderveer Retires (merged)

Not a surprise, but definitely shocked and a bit heartbroken. TVD was such a huge advocate for women’s basketball, but especially for West Coast hoops. East Coast bias really is a thing and she did her best to bring up not just Stanford but all of West Coast basketball. Her legacy is much more...

Players Entering Transfer Portal, As of March 2024

I don't think that's fair to say, especially since she got her degree at Louisville in 3 years. You don't cram all those extra classes in three years if you don't care about your education.

Players Entering Transfer Portal, As of March 2024

I think this is a bit unfair to TVO. She got her degree from OSU and wants to play elsewhere as a grad transfer. I think graduate transfers are a different beast. I for one will happy when the extra COVID year goes away after this year.

Mulkey story coming? ** ITS HERE

Maybe we blame Pat Forde for this one? I feel like his tweet started this all and it snowballed from there… I haven’t read the article yet, will probably at some point… but I also think that it was what we knew all along - it gave context as to the type of person Mulkey is… but we already knew...

Mulkey story coming? ** ITS HERE

I am really curious what is in the piece. We already know she is a homophobe and can be vindictive to people she doesn't like. This isn't new news. As to her complaining about not being given enough time to answer the questions... she would never have answered them anyway, as she already...

    Big Ten...Big Upset

I think Stanford is still a suspect No. 1 seed... however, they have been consistent when facing top opponents. And it seems like no other team aside from South Carolina is safe.

    More injuries in WBB (merged)

You are also saying the only value they bring is basketball. What about them as people? You don't think Geno is recruiting them as people as well, and not what they can do for him on the basketball court? I am pretty sure his coaching staff does not regret recruiting Azzi, Caroline or Aubrey...

    More injuries in WBB (merged)

If I recall correctly, all of the Huskies you mentioned were injured AFTER they committed to UConn. So in that case, are you recommending Geno pull a scholarship from someone who committed to UConn? By that point anyway, the way recruiting works, all the good players are typically spoken for, or...

How long have you been attending UConn games?

Never attended a UConn game, but have been aware of the program since 1995. Stanford and UConn really weren’t on the best of terms back then but I started to become a fan starting with the Shea Ralph years. I’ve also become a fan of Auriemma because I see past his antics and what he says.

ESPN: Ranking the top 10 players in Stanford history

I actually disagree. Pedersen had the ‘it’ that was missing from previous Stanford teams. Prior to her coming onto The Farm, Stanford had the reputation of being the Nice Girls… ie soft and not tough. That instantly changed with Pedersen. She wasn’t a dirty player, she wasn’t overtly physical...

Who else is missing? The criteria seems pretty cut and dry…?

UConn stats....Nika vs Hailey Van Lith...

You are comparing two different players who are asked two full different roles for their respective teams. Van Lith is a scorer and that has been her role at Louisville and I imagine will be at LSU. Nika, while important, is more of a supporting player. She isn’t the top option and the...

    Connecticut Prospects

Heather Buck was ranked No. 31 as a senior by HoopGurlz. I remember her because I thought Stanford was also in the running for her? And as a Cardinal fan… who could forget Rappahahn? Worked hard first three years before she really got her shot in the starting line-up. I rememeber she drained a...

I think DT is ready for another olympic ride

No one ‘deserves’ a spot just because they have been with Team USA for a number of years. If DT gets chosen, it’s because she brings something of value that others can’t, not because of respect or legacy.

Can any team ACTUALLY beat South Carolina in women’s March Madness? These 3 Can! Coach Rob says Oh, yeah!!!

Not being physically strong enough? We were one of the only few teams to take South Carolina to overtime… so our bigs beg to differ. Our mental toughness and ability to keep a lead is the issue on our end, not our post players ‍♂️

    Women’s AP All-American Team

I think one of the problems with Jones is she doesn’t have a certain position in which she can really focus on. The saying ‘Jack of all trades, master of none’ sort of applies here, imho. She is amazing, don’t get me wrong, and I wouldn’t trade her for anyone else, but perhaps this is the reason...

    Azzi update

I imagine that hypothetically, an athlete can look out for his or her own best interest if they have a good NIL package. Yes the scholarship money helps, but the athlete may not feel like they are at the mercy of the coach anymore (again, assuming the NIL package is good enough).

South Carolina fans, a moment please

I personally haven’t been chased away - still a lurker and a fan. I’ve just placed less emphasis on college athletics as a whole, haha. But still love coming to the Boneyard and reading up on the Huskies. Geno runs a great program and your athletes are always great representatives of the games...

Another way too early Top 25 from ESPN

No but not having a quality point guard leaves a big gap in the line-up for Stanford. I think they are rated too high… until they have proven they have a point guard. What’s the point of having quality posts if you can’t give them the ball? I suspect things will be fine for Stanford, as Jones...

    WNBA pre-draft news

Surprised Hull went this high, though she also is the unsung hero type of player that only fans of a program will know aboht. Her offense was inconsistent at times, but her defense and leadership were always on display. She’s not a player that will set the WNBA on fire, but she is someone who...

NCAA Denies ND Center Maya Dodson Another Year

The difference is she sat out during the COVID year that allowed everyone to have an extra year. It makes sense it got denied actually. They gave everyone an extra year so people wouldn’t redshirt, but if you never played during that year anyway, the extra year doesn’t really apply to you.

    Are Geno's coaching methods outdated?

Again, you are underestimating the impact Paige has on the team. Right now, Paige is UConn basketball and the Huskie offense, for better or worse. Look how many minutes she plays and her stat line. Everything ran through her. The team is completely different and the expectations a lot of the...

    Are Geno's coaching methods outdated?

I don’t think my eyes could roll any further and then I read this thread… I suspect people have no idea just how difficult it is to plug and play a player of Bueckers’ caliber into the line-up and expect things to run normally. Give the Huskies a week or two and sure, fine… but a few days after...

Geno & CT Sun’s Curt Miller

I didn't know Curt Miller was an openly gay coach - good for him and great representation for the LGBTQ+ community.

    All's not fair

Smart athletic departments will also have "brand" coaches as another selling point to lure student athletes to their campuses. This is just another instance of the Power 5 schools distancing themselves from the smaller schools, which is a shame, imho.

What's the difference ...between a Forward and a Wing?

I think Nicole Powell was known as a point forward, not a point center. She had the vision and passing ability of a point guard, and the body type and physicality of a forward and the shooting touch to hit the 15-foot jumpers.

    U16 FIBA Championship

I don't understand why people are so quick to label Watkins as a ball hog. Yes she may like to have the ball in her hand... but she is what, 15? 16? Obviously if she comes to UConn, Auriemma will set her straight. Players only become ball hogs if the coaches allow it. Also, Chile was not a...
